We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to join our team as the Mainframe Platform Director. In this unique role, you will oversee a hybrid model where much of the day to day are primarily managed by a large outsourced team, while you lead an internal team focused on governance, strategy, and vendor management. Your success hinges on ensuring the platform delivers reliable, high-performing service while optimizing costs and maintaining robust security and compliance.Responsibilities:
Strategic Direction and Governance:
Develop and implement the long-term vision and strategy for the mainframe platform, aligning it with business objectives and IT roadmaps.
Establish and enforce comprehensive governance policies, procedures, and standards for the platform, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential issues, implementing robust change management practices.
Participate in and represent mainframe interests in enterprise internal audits for CMS, SOX, DoD, etc.
Oversee service level agreements (SLAs) with the third-party vendor, actively monitoring performance and addressing deviations.
Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans for the platform, ensuring preparedness for any eventuality.
Internal Team Leadership:
Build and lead a highly skilled internal team focused on strategic planning, vendor oversight, platform monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Foster a collaborative and innovative environment, empowering your team to contribute their expertise and drive positive change.
Provide coaching and mentoring to team members, fostering their professional development and career growth.
Third-Party Vendor Management:
Cultivate a strong, collaborative partnership with the mainframe vendor, fostering open communication and transparent information sharing.
Proactively manage the vendor relationship, ensuring they meet SLAs and service commitments, escalating issues and negotiating solutions effectively.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives with the vendor, seeking innovative solutions to optimize performance, security, and cost-efficiency.
Manage contract renewals, working with ECM to ensure enterprise requirements are met or mitigated and costs are appropriate.
Ensure products are appropriately licensed and manage to the licensed thresholds to minimize financial and audit risks.
Technical Expertise:
Possess a deep understanding of mainframe technology, architecture, and operational best practices.
Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies relevant to the mainframe landscape.
Provide technical guidance and support to your internal team and serve as an advisor to the vendor on strategic technical decisions.
Communication and Collaboration:
Effectively communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including senior management, IT teams, business users, and the third-party vendor.
Collaborate with other IT leaders to ensure seamless integration of the mainframe platform with broader IT initiatives.
Clearly document and communicate decisions, plans, and progress reports, fostering transparency and alignment.

Role Essentials
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
10 years of experience in mainframe technology and operations management.
5 years of experience in a leadership role managing hybrid IT environments, preferably involving third-party vendors.
Proven track record of developing and implementing successful IT strategies with a focus on cost optimization and service excellence.
Strong understanding of IT governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks like COBIT, ITIL, and ISO.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate teams, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Experience in negotiating and managing contracts with third-party vendors.

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. Salary : $164,700 - $226,600
