What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Manager position at Hunter & Hilsberg?
We are a small but growing producer of gourmet fruit spreads with a new location in Cortland County, just a few minutes drive from Tully and Homer. We are best known for our “Hunter & Hilsberg” line of jams and jellies.
We are searching for an experienced production manager who is interested in working part-time with flexible work hours while training for this new position. Per hour pay can be discussed as it will be based on experience and certification.
On-the-job training involves working alongside the company founders to learn the entire small batch production process of turning simple ingredients into shelf-stable, high quality, old-school-style preserves.
Once trained, the production manager facilitates and oversees production, provides mentorship and support to the entire team, and serves a vital role in ensuring safe, delicious and affordable products are created for the enjoyment of the public.
This position requires individuals who:
- Have a strong interest in the principles of food safety and quality assurance
- Are willing to participate in any training and certification courses required for the position (if qualified, we may cover the cost of training)
- Are comfortable managing complex processes while being a supportive leader of a small team
- Facilitate adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Safe Quality Foods (SQF) requirements
- Ensure Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including records of processing, personnel management, cleaning sanitation processes, and inventory management are strictly followed
Qualifications:
Candidates already trained and certified in a related field, such as the manufacture of food, beverages, cosmetics, and other regulated consumer products are preferred.
Candidates with experience in Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP), Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), Safe Quality Foods (SQF), and/or other Global Food Safety Initiative or similar safety certification programs, are highly desirable and can be paid at a premium.

Must be 18 years of age or older.
This opportunity is part-time to start, 2-4x per week (Mon-Fri), some weekends optional. Food production work involves handling fresh, frozen and hot inputs, product prep, following process formulations, cooking, packaging, record-keeping and cleaning.
