JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective The Payroll Clerk is responsible for managing and processing accurate payroll for the Huntington Water Quality Board.

Essential Functions

1. Conduct bi-weekly payroll for 80 employees

2. Calculate employees’ hourly rates, salaries, or other compensation, time worked, paid leave and holidays, deductions and withholdings, and other information

3. Implement collective bargaining agreement

4. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and best practices

5. Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to auditors

6. Provide departmental support by receiving phone calls, e-mails, data entry, and answering employee payroll questions

7. Maintain confidential employee records with Human Resources

8. Promote courtesy and professionalism throughout the City of Huntington

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Work Environment
Work is performed indoors and operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

This is a largely sedentary role; however, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, talk, and hear. The employee frequently must be able to manipulate writing instruments, a keyboard and mouse. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Schedule
This is a full-time position. Primary days of work are Monday through Friday.

Travel
Minimal local travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and four years of experience in the administration of payroll OR

Associate degree in business or related field and two years of experience in administration of payroll OR

Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and one year of experience in administration of payroll

Preferred Education and Experience

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Valid driver’s license
