Reports to: Maintenance Director

Overall Job Functions

· Field all breakdown calls while on duty and with the necessary assistance from co-workers arrange for repairs in the most cost effective and expedient manner possible

· Monitor e-mail, computer and phone lines for incoming communications concerning vehicle repairs and arrange repairs in accordance with approved procedures.

· Assist lead Night Dispatch Manager with all dispatch and management of drivers

Specific responsibilities and tasks

· Breakdown & Maintenance

o Perform remote troubleshooting with drivers and walk them through basic checks and repairs

o Search databases and websites for repair facilities

o Monitor vehicle repair progress and communicate with the repair facility, driver, Operations personnel and freight customer as appropriate

o Review incoming estimates and invoices

o Process invoices and issue POs and payments in accordance with approved procedures

o Coordinate necessary repairs for safe and legal operation in the most cost effective manner

o Arrange lodging as needed for drivers with equipment in repair

o Perform various clerical duties related to the Maintenance Department as directed

· Dispatch & Operations

o Dispatch and trip plan drivers on loads

o Monitor daily scheduled break points for drivers

o Manage loads until delivered

§ Monitor temperatures of freight at time of loading and during transit to ensure proper care and transportation of perishable commodities

§ Verify that all shipments are properly secured and are transported at legal gross and axle weights

§ Work with members of Operations to manage available drivers and trucks in order to meet all pickup and delivery appointments

o Coach drivers on proper driving techniques and review ECM downloads to maximize fuel economy

o Obtain bills of lading and trip packets for delivered loads from drivers and forward to Accounts Receivable

o Manage any problems including but not limited to OS&Ds, late deliveries and truck/driver problems

o Help drivers with problems

o Assist in tracking all loads and drivers and taking all necessary measures to ensure safe and legal on time delivery of all freight

o If all resources have been exhausted and the Dispatch Manager is in agreement that on time delivery is not possible, then the employee will notify all necessary personnel inside the company and with the affected customer and perform the necessary work to obtain new delivery appointments

· Fill in for Night Dispatch Manager as needed due to scheduled or unscheduled time off on any night of the 7 day week

· Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Proper phone etiquette when dealing with drivers and office personnel

· Proficient in Microsoft programs

· Able to prioritize with a sense of urgency and follow through

· Knowledge of DOT Out Of Service criteria

· Knowledge of FMCSA regulations with an emphasis on vehicle maintenance, driver fitness and HOS compliance

· A good working knowledge and understanding of Class 8 tractor and trailer repairs

· 3 years transportation breakdown or maintenance experience preferred

· 3 years transportation operations experience preferred

Required hours

· Monday through Friday from 15:00 – Midnight

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $12.01 - $26.93 per hour
