Hushabye Nursery is an Arizona nonprofit organization with a mission to ‘embrace substance exposed babies and their caregivers with compassionate, evidence-based care that changes the course of their entire lives.’ The organization was founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal nurse practitioner who witnessed firsthand the challenges of newborns exposed prenatally to opioids and those families trying to care for them. Hushabye Nursery’s innovative model offers a safe and inclusive space where mothers, family members and babies – from conception through childhood – can receive integrative care and therapeutic support that offers each child the best possible life outcomes. Programs will include prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services and outpatient therapies.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Licensed Practical Nurse is a member of the health care team who provides comprehensive health care services through observation and monitoring of patients, recording relevant data to aid in treatment decisions and caring for the entire family system Responsible for the holistic care of patients and families while working in a positive work environment, fostered by the supportive relationship with the multidisciplinary team. Able to think critically when assessing patient signs and identifying potential problems so appropriate recommendations and actions are taken
This position provides nursing care under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse and/or licensed physician/nurse practitioner and is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others who are under his or her direction. This position observes, contributes to the plan of care, implements, reports and documents patient care in accordance with organizational policies, standard of care and state scope of practice. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills necessary to contribute to the assessment of data and to plan, provide and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned patients.
QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:

- In accordance with the vision, mission and values of Hushabye Nursery, the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible for providing quality nursing care that meets the needs of persons served.
- Provides care in a supportive, compassionate, and non-judgmental manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights.
- Contributes to plan of care under direction of registered nurse, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family, and health team input. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of care. Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team. Reviews plan of care to reflect changing patient needs and provides input for updates as needed
- Implements and provides care based on delegated interventions identified in care plan and medical orders, in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements.
- May delegate and provide supervision in the provision of care to non-licensed personnel, in accordance with state scope of practice. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.
- Reports condition of patient, including signs and symptoms which may be indicative of change in the patient’s condition to the registered nurse and/or licensed provider.
- Observes and reports patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members.
- Documents observation, implementation, and data in the patient record. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient’s response to treatment.
- Notes licensed provider orders accurately and in a timely manner.
- May plan, organize, develop, and coordinate the completion of documentation and the input of patient assessment data as required by federal regulation.
- Maintains, updates and revises required documentation according to patient changes in condition, as regulated by federal and/or state guidelines.
- Effectively communicates and coordinates with members of the interdisciplinary team regarding appropriate functional/care level and transition to another level.
- Observes and reports caregiver’s response and the effectiveness of patient teaching.
- Completes required orientation and continuing competencies as required by policy and procedure.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as requested.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Must possess a current, valid LPN or LVN license in state of practice, temporary LPN or LVN license in state of practice, or compact LPN or LVN licensure for current state of practice.
- Practiced as a LPN?with a minimum 2 years of experience, preferably with newborn population.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Current BLS Certification or ability to become certified.
- Current AZ DPS Level 1 fingerprint clearance card.
- Excellent knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures.
- Outstanding critical thinking, organizational, and multi-tasking skills.
- Experience caring for babies with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome preferred.
- Passion to care for families impacted by Substance Use Disorder and Opiate Use Disorder preferred.
- Team player with excellent communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to “think out of the box.”
EDUCATION (MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS):
Successful completion of educational program resulting in Licensed Practical Nurse license.
