We are seeking a Senior Thermal Engineer - HV Battery & Power Electronics to join our lean and agile team in our Mesa, Arizona facility. The Senior Thermal Engineer – HV Battery & Power Electronics will focus on design and release of the thermal management systems required for the High Voltage Battery and Power Electronics components.

General Requirements

  • Lead system design & development, as well as test verification and validation activities.
    • Coordinate all design related activity including sizing of related thermal management components (pumps, LTR, CFM, Chiller, Cooling plates etc..)
    • Development of system DVP&R and DFMEA’s.
    • Coordinate hardware testing in the lab to verify and validate thermal management system functionality and reliability.
    • Resolve technical issues and provide recommendations.
    • Provide input in the creation of system and component specifications and other technical related design documents.
    • Optimize thermal system for weight and cost while satisfying program milestones.
  • Collaborate with a team of thermal component Design Release Engineers (DREs) to develop an overall thermal management system architecture.
    • Engineering meetings with powertrain, power electronics, vehicle integration, body structure, energy storage system engineers to assure thermal component packaging, installation, and an optimized functional environment.
    • Design for manufacturing feasibility design reviews.
  • Manage refrigeration cycle, plumbing, compressor and condenser design.
    • Coordination of 1D, CFD and CAE modeling and subsequent interpretation of results for design optimization.
    • Prototype development and testing data support includes analysis of data and recommendations.
    • Concept and component selection.
    • Share and present engineered thermal design concepts to cross-functional teams to ensure vehicle integration of thermal systems.
    • Describe development proposals and problem descriptions and present to various levels of management.
  • Work with suppliers on design evaluation and validation of the thermal management system hardware to meet product requirements.
    • Tracking supplier DVP&R, DFMEA’s progress.
    • Provide engineering guidance to meet system performance targets.
  • Create proof of concept demonstrations for integrated thermal management systems.
  • Provide input in the creation of vehicle, subsystem & component specifications, test procedures and other technical documents.
  • Evaluate and compare industry standards and specifications to ElectraMeccanica’s standards and specifications.
  • Evaluate and compare competitive data (per market segment) to ElectraMeccanica’s internal data.
  • Collaborate with vehicle integration engineering to define and refine specifications.
  • Prepare Statement of Work (SOR) and Statement of Requirements (SOR) for Thermal component sourcing activities.
