Summary: The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the overall operation of the laundry facility and to ensure an adequate supply of clean linen is available in accordance with the hotel’s policies/procedures and the brand’s operating standards for guest satisfaction, quality, and safety and security.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• Able to work a flexible schedule including holidays and weekends if needed
• Receives hotel’s dirty linen from Housekeeping and possibly other staff members
• Collecting dirty linen and deliver to laundry room
• Separates linens and terry by type
• Monitors linens for stains, holes and tears
• Treat and follow stain removal procedures set forth by management
• Washes and dries dirty linen ensuring proper settings
• Responsible for dyeing cleaning rags
• Maintain the cleanliness of the laundry area
• Clean lint traps in laundry equipment
• Empty trash receptacles in laundry area
• Receive supplies, date and rotate stock
• Complete and record inventory on inventory sheet
• Follow hotel operational procedures to ensure an order is placed for items that are below par levels
For Customer Service and Guest Satisfaction:
• Maintain a high standard of personal appearance and proper uniform
• Greets guests, visitors and staff in a courteous and friendly manner
• Announce presence before entering guest rooms
• Respond to guests or staff requests for guest supplies (i.e. towels, soap, etc)
For Safety and Security:
• Report any suspicious activity of guests, visitors or staff
• Properly label any lost/found articles and turn in to the appropriate Manager designated by GM
• Perform duties in accordance with Safety and Security Policies
• Perform duties in accordance with OSHA, HAZCOM and Blood Borne Pathogens regulations
For Teamwork:
• Performs other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management
• When asked, assist with some training of new department personnel
• When asked, inspect or clean public areas to insure high level of presentation
Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:
• Ability to work with cleaning and laundry chemicals
• Firm and simple grasping are required for all aspects of work
• Lifting occurs on a regular basis, usually not more than 25 lbs. but may be up to 50 lbs.
• Able to stand and walk 90% of the work day and sitting may be limited to short breaks
• Reaching is required up to 80% of the time and may be combined with other activities such as pushing, pulling, and bending in all phases of work; Overhead reaching is usually limited to approximately 25% of the time
• Twisting torso for approximately 75% of the time
• Bending and stooping up to 60% of the time
• Pushing and pulling actions are required in excess of 60% of the time
• Must be able to frequently push and pull bins/carts weighing up to 50 pounds
• Crouching and kneeling are usually less than 20% of the time
• Climbing of stairs is usually less than 20% of the time
• Crawling is less than 5% of the time
Skills, Educational Background and Experience:
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent years of relevant work experience required
• Friendly demeanor and good customer service skills needed
• Previous experience in hotel laundry or housekeeping preferred
• General knowledge of cleaning and laundry chemicals preferred
