Summary: Hydro Insurance Department (HID) is seeking an insurance adviser to join our team, an international team of 13 people in Norway, Brazil, UK and US. This new full-time position will report directly to Head of Insurance. As the adviser will follow up and support several Business Units in the US (Aluminum Metals, Extrusion North America, Building Systems, Precision Tubing, and the holding company), the position will have a dotted reporting line into the Vice President & Head of Legal - North America and work closely with Hydro’s legal and finance team. Depending on the level of experience, the title of the position will be either Insurance Adviser or Insurance Manager.

HID is the governing unit for insurance and is responsible for preparing and implementing Hydro’s overall insurance strategy. HID has the overall responsibility for defining the insurance program of the group, to ensure adequate and cost-efficient insurance against insurable risks related to physical assets and income where the financial consequences of a loss may exceed what can be satisfactory retained. HID actively contributes to reducing operational risks (technical safety) by providing risk engineering services and best practice sharing across the business areas, and shall also seek to ensure optimized utilization of Hydro’s captive insurer, Industriforsikring AS.

Job Responsibilities:

The position is expected to work on a broad variety of insurance matters. Potential matters include the following:

• Support and contribute HID in the implementation of Hydro’s overall insurance strategy, scope of coverage and the renewal process
• Administration of the company’s group insurance program for the North American-based units
• Compilation of underwriting information and coverage placement data
• Ensure correct management and quality of information in the insurance systems, including premium and invoice review for accuracy, allocation and timeliness
• Claims management, including formulating, developing, and coordinating all claims-related activities, partnering with Hydro’s business units to resolve claims, and maintaining claims data for proper record-keeping and loss forecasting purposes
• Identifying and quantifying exposures, recommending solutions, implementing approved insurance programs, and periodic auditing
• Promoting loss prevention and follow up insurance recommendations, in cooperation with HID Risk Engineers
• Coordination of and/or participation in site visits by insurance carriers
• Management of relationships with third party service providers, including brokers, TPA’s and insurers, including leading periodic Request for Proposal projects
• Updating and monitoring compliance with internal insurance policies and procedures, including the management of the issuance and collection of certificates of insurance
• Partner with internal clients and global insurance team colleagues to respond to requests for assistance on a wide range of insurance issues
• Support procurement and legal areas in the evaluation and definition of contractual insurance clauses and responsibilities in supply contracts and projects
• Support specific insurance needs relating to M&A projects, legacy environmental liabilities, etc.
• Assist HSE with procurement and management of workers’ compensation insurance program

Job Requirements:

• The ideal candidate will be a highly organized and detail-oriented self-starter, and will be able to work efficiently and effectively under deadline pressures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are required, as are the abilities to proactively manage multiple projects, and to take initiative and apply practical common-sense solutions, all in a fast-paced environment that may require quick response times.
• Strong business judgment, and problem-solving skills are desirable, along with the desire and ability to learn and grow.
• Good understanding of different types of Liability and Financial Lines insurances (i.e., Third Party, Environmental, D&O, etc.).
• Knowledge of other lines of insurance an advantage, such as Property Damage and Business Interruption.
• Ability to foster positive relationships at all levels of the organization and across multiple locations and countries.
• MS Office skills.
• 5-10% travel to North American plant locations, with international travel to one global HID team meeting per year.

Education and Work Requirements:

• Relevant higher education, e.g., in Law, Finance
• Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate
• At least 5 years’ senior insurance experience (from e.g., an insurance company, law firm, broker, corporate, etc.)
