POSITION DESCRIPTION
Currently HGL is seeking two (2) analytical radiochemists to join our team in Maywood, New Jersey. The successful candidates will operate and maintain the government owned radiochemistry laboratory in support of the Maywood FUSRAP project field operations. Our Maywood office is dedicated to supporting the USACE on this project involved in the cleanup of radiological contamination. We are looking for experienced professionals to join our collaborative multi-disciplinary project team on this complex environmental project.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The person hired for this role will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the on-site laboratory in a manner that will support project needs.
Required Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL
The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role:
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in a laboratory environment, with a minimum of 5 years of environmental laboratory experience and 2 years performing radiochemical analysis.
- BS degree in Chemistry, Physical or Biological Sciences. Education equivalency consists of the following: an A.S. degree in Physical or Biological Science AND 4 years laboratory experience OR 8 years of laboratory experience may be substituted for a BS degree.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER (or within first 45 days of employment) and 8-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Refresher (or within first 45 days of employment).
- Performance of radiological sample preparation and control, gross alpha/beta analysis of air sample filters and surface contamination swipes, multi-channel gamma analysis of prepared soil samples, analytical data recording, reporting and record retention, maintain on-site facility, including government furnished laboratory equipment, containerize and package under Chain of Custody samples for quality control splits and additional off-site radiological and chemical analyses as required, manage sample data, communicate results to operational personnel, respond to inquiries and data requests, and develop reports.
- The Radiochemist is also responsible for creating and uploading electronic deliverable files for the onsite analyses and for managing the quality control tracking.
Preferred Skills
WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT
- Specific education or experience in radiological counting methods, statistics, radiological instrumentation, radiation safety or nuclear engineering/physics is preferred.
- Experience working under USACE Quality Control and H&S programs on Radiological Remediation Projects. Prior certification by NJDEP or another state a plus.
