Description

The Secondary Operator (Machine Shop, Spring Shop, and MPC department) performs final processing, expediting and packaging of spring products for the customers of HyTech, focusing on product finishing and assembly, treatment, packaging, quality, continuous improvement and safety. 


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Receives customer orders and prepares items for shipping.
  • Observes operation and speed of packing and adjusts when necessary.
  • Primary function is final production processing, expediting and packaging of products before shipment, including modify and assemble, finish and treat, inspect and sort and operate all assigned equipment 
  • Secondary operations include a wide variety of repetitive operations such as flattening, flaring, grinding, buffing, trimming, crimping, looping, shrink tubing, tumbling, demagnetizing, and cut and weld procedures. 
  • May setup cable cutter, crimp flare, sandblast, grinders, setco and other machines within the shop to prep for secondary operation.
  • Safely operate equipment including Forklift, Moyer, Bennet, Scotch Brite Wheel, Auto-Weld, Paint Spray Booth, and Drying Ovens.
  • Product or parts cleaning or “treatments” such as ultrasonic, rust inhibition, washing, drying, coating and painting.
  • Perform quality conformance procedures including sorting, Vision System inspection, and micrometer testing.
  • Follow proper make down, use, safety and disposal of cleaning solutions, rust preventative, paints and other chemical treatments. 
  • Closely observe equipment for malfunctions, quality, or potential problems, including broken or worn equipment and report immediately. 
  • Complete required paperwork, data scanning and data entry including Job Traveler, Time Sheets, and Inspection Report Forms.
  • Follow assigned operations, as contained in the job traveler, including rate required.
  • Packaging operations including pre-clean, label, seal, and transport boxes to staging area.
  • Ensures that adequate packing supplies are stocked in or near the packing machine.
  • Clears jams and performs basic troubleshooting.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work area, disposing of excess materials.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 
  • Reports to department lead, supervisor and/or manager. 


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to follow directions and work well in a team.
  • Understanding of and the ability to abide by applicable OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Sufficient written communication and reading skills to read and prepare packing slips.
  • Ability to operate or to quickly learn packing equipment.
  • Good time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Basic Quality Standards and Concepts literacy 

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  
  • Other certifications, training or requirements as may arise for this position as communicated by management.
  • Completion of on-the-job training may be substituted for educational requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds at a time or move or position objects up to 50 lbs. 
  • Visual acuity to read instructions and inspect parts produced.  
  • May be required to repetitively move or position materials, tools, equipment and objects above and below shoulder level, and from side to side of body.
  • May be required to communicate, discern, convey, or exchange information with other teammates.
  • Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment at all times during work hours as required by company safety rules.
