Title: Purchasing Manager
Reports to: North American President

Summary of Position:
The Purchasing Manager is responsible for procurement of materials and supplies needed for the operation of the organization, managing customer and supplier contracts, agreements and terms. Maintains, develops and recommends to management the purchasing policies for the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Analyze market and delivery systems to assess present and future material availability
- Locate vendors of materials, services, parts, equipment or supplies, and review to determine product availability and terms of sales
- Develop and implement purchasing and contract management instructions, policies, and procedures
- Represent company in negotiating contracts and formulating policies with suppliers
- Review, evaluate, and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids
- Direct and coordinate activities associated with buying, selling, and distributing materials, equipment, machinery, and supplies
- Analyze requirements to schedule material to support production
- Actively participate in vendor selection and purchasing of goods or services
- Assist in managing supplier procurement issues
- Negotiate best prices
- Prepare and process requisitions and purchase orders for supplies and equipment
- Control purchasing department budgets
- Recommend and implement cost savings
- Identifying shipments and the subsequent payments
- Work with exchange rates
- Contact suppliers in order to schedule or expedite deliveries and to resolve shortages, missed or late deliveries, and other problems
- Prepare, maintain, and review files, reports and price lists
- Compare prices, proposals, specifications, and delivery dates in order to determine the best bid among potential suppliers
- Track the status of orders
- Participates in the selection of vendor sources and has considerable latitude in determining acceptable price
- Compare suppliers' bills with bids and purchase orders in order to verify accuracy
- Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in correct amounts
- Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history
- Confer with staff, users, and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services and determine corrective action
- Review purchase order claims and contracts for conformance to company policy
- Participate in the development of specifications for equipment, products or substitute materials
- Resolve vendor or contractor grievances, and claims against suppliers
- Prepare bid awards requiring approval
- Administer online purchasing systems
- May work directly in support of line operations and in collaboration with department managers,
- engineers or operations staff
- Prepares bid specifications, receive bids and make purchases of commodities or goods where the financial impact is great
- Maintain and review computerized or manual records of items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories
- Maintain records of goods ordered and received
Qualifications:
- Contract management, review, development and implementation
- Negotiation tactics and skills
- Firm understanding of financial impact of purchased goods
Education:
5 years in purchasing/procurement for the automotive manufacturing environment
Technical Skills:
- MS Office – Proficient in Excel and Word
- SAP knowledge
- High Organizational Skills Required!
- High Attention to Detail Required!
