Our HCBS center is seeking dependable, flexible and supportive childcare providers who are able to value diversity, create a warm and welcoming environment, and are committed to helping children develop socially and emotionally by supporting their cognitive, physical and social development. This position is for an 11 year old male client in Manhattan. 6 hours per week (Tuesday & Thursday 3-6 PM).

We are specifically looking for workers with experience caring for children (Required), with serious emotional disturbances(preferred).

The Direct Support Professional (DSP), or Respite Worker, is responsible for assisting the youth we support, while following established treatment plans. Our program emphasizes the importance of promoting independence and integration into the community. Services are provided in the youth’s family’s home and/or in the community. You will abide by the Direct Support Professional Code of Ethics at all times. You will be required to attend periodic meetings and trainings and provide feedback regarding progress. You will also need to be an active team member and give suggestions on strategies to assist the individual in achieving their personal goals.

Provide Safety & Support

  • Ensure health, safety and welfare of individuals
  • Safeguard and respect the confidentiality of the individuals and their families
  • Promote individual’s independence within their homes and community
  • Assist the individuals to develop and maintain relationships
  • Promote and protect the health, safety and emotional well-being of the individuals
  • Commit to person-centered supports and honor the personality, preferences, culture and strengths of the individuals
  • Work in partnership with others to support all individuals to lead self-directed lives
  • Implement and adhere to established treatment plans
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Be able to communicate with parents and children.
  • Be able to work well with children.
  • Provide information to parents about behaviors and interactions with the child.

Administrative & Company Policies

  • Uphold the standards set by the National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) Code of Ethics
  • Be familiar with fire evacuation and emergency procedures within the home and community environment
  • Maintain all required certifications
  • May be required to report to alternate work location (e.g. Hospital, Dr.’s Office etc.)
  • Report problems and concerns to supervisors immediately
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and/or senior management

 

Education/Qualifications

  • High school diploma required, bachelors or masters highly preferred.
  • Experience working with people with intellectual/developmental disabilities/Medically Fragile highly preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record is highly preferred

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $22-$25 per hour

Experience:

 

  • Caregiving for children: 1 year (Required)
