Your Role and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive IP & patent filing strategy that optimizes IBM’s worldwide patent portfolio for maximum business impact.
- Analyze the patent filing data and patent analytics to draw conclusions.
- Use advanced visualizations and graphics to present status and plans to senior executives on a quarterly basis.
- Create yearly filing targets by technology based on business strategy, patent landscape analysis, and patent pipeline projections.
- Present patent filing trends and analysis to large teams of technical leaders at least monthly.
- Integrate business technology requirements to the patent strategy to ensure adequate pipeline and filings.
- Program management for Master Inventor nomination and corporate announce and the Invention Team awards on a yearly basis.
- Educate the Invention Teams chairs, members, and inventors.
- Prepare and present monthly patent metric reports.
- Communicate the strategy and news to inventor community.
- Act as the focal point for all patent-process operations.
- Lead working groups to improve the patent process operations.
- Research and evaluate disruptive technologies and identify those for inclusion in the filing targets.
- Manage the disruptive technology pipeline and orchestrate innovation activities to achieve targets.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
- At least 5 years demonstrated success leading teams and managing technical projects.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience preparing and presenting plans, measurements, and strategies to executive management.
- A self-motivated and driven individual who can work independently as well as in multi-team settings.
- Previous experience as an Invention Team lead, or master inventor is a plus.
- Skills and Education
- Physics or Engineering degree (BS or higher).
- Patent agent, patent attorney, or 5 years in patent engineering.
- Experience with patent search and landscape tools.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
- Experience in IBM engineering is a plus.
