On-Call Fisheries and Aquatic Biologist
San Francisco & Sacramento, CA
ICF is currently seeking On-Call (Temporary) Fisheries and Aquatic Biologists/Technicians to be based out of our offices in San Francisco or Sacramento. The position involves laboratory work, requiring extensive hours in the lab sorting and identifying zooplankton and macroinvertebrates. You will also conduct field work on research vessels where to collect zooplankton, mysid, and larval fish samples. Work assignments include working up to 25-40 hours a week depending on work availability. Willingness to work nightshifts is required.
About On-Call Employment with ICF
Given the seasonal or project-specific nature of our environmental work, ICF hires environmental professionals through “On-Call” contracts. Those who excel on our projects are sometimes offered full time employment on the Fish and Aquatic Science Team. On-Call employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available (we usually schedule work hours a few weeks ahead of time), and each on-call employee can accept or refuse the hours assigned to them in a given week. On-Call employees may work concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment along as their outside work does not create a conflict of interest with work they do for ICF.
Basic Qualifications for Field and Lab Positions
- B.S. in Biology, or 1 year of field experience
- Experience conducting fieldwork, and ability to work outdoors for weeks at a time with long hours on the field site.
- Strong oral and written communication skills & ability to prepare field data forms.
- Field identification of the common delta fish species of upper San Francisco Estuary.
- Experience with sampling and water quality monitoring equipment highly desired
- Ability to swim 50 yards without assistance.
