The Sr. Director, Controller will oversee and lead a team of professionals responsible for the General Accounting function in a fast-growing Software-as-a-Service Company based in Holmdel, New Jersey.
They will be responsible for scaling the accounting organization, including scaling for organic growth, inorganic growth and international expansion as it relates to the accounting functions. Additionally, they will be responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in accordance with US GAAP. Additionally, SEC rules and regulations should be implemented as best practices where applicable.
Position requires working closely with business partners across the organization and the incumbent must be able to communicate clearly and translate financial data into value added business information to enable the business to better identify growth opportunities, address gaps and manage risks, as well as participate in the development of Executive and Board level presentations. Reports to the VP, Accounting.
People
- Determine the proper short-term and long-term structure of Accounting team
- Provides planning & prioritization for accounting team delegating and assigning projects, duties, and objectives that drive high performance.
- Leads and coaches the team structuring appropriate training and development and eliminating road blocks to team performance.
- Communicate with Executives, Senior Management and various internal departments regarding Accounting initiatives and interests.
- Determines and communicates career path of team members
- Consistently ensures that the team’s work is conducted with integrity at all times and that behavior aligns with iCIMS policies, procedures, and core competencies
Process
- Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and ensure expenditure control.
- Oversee preparation of financial reports and monthly closing. .
- Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected in relation to month, quarter and year end close.
- Coordinates and oversees the Sarbanes Oxley activities relative to internal controls documentation and testing and segregation of duties in relation to month, quarter and year end close.
- Provides technical accounting GAAP guidance and support to all internal stakeholders. At times, this may include involvement in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions/dispositions.
- Ensures that company financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance.
- Ensure proper accounting (ASC 606) is being followed for complex customer contracts
- Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met in relation to month, quarter and year end close.
- Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records. Is further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to general ledger, resulting from the audit findings.
- Successfully blends regulatory requirements and business strategy in the decision process.
- Supports integrating current or future subsidiary’s accounting functions into parent, which include accounting system, accounting policies, processes and procedures.
Systems
- Optimize integration with other systems (post BOSS implementation)
- Ensure controls are in place to test for accuracy and completeness of integrations
- Ensure accounting system used is being fully utilized
- Ensure chart of accounts is up to date and in line with company analyses
- At least five years in a management role (leading a team) as a Controller or Director, Accounting position, preferably at SaaS company.
- Strong leadership skills, both direct and indirect. Ability to work well cross-functionally and influence across the organization.
- Proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting and internal controls and all pertinent tax, GAAP, SEC rules and regulations including Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multitask in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
- Compelling interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Ability to cultivate a visible presence and the savvy to interact with staff at all levels of the organization.
- Adjusts easily to change, learns quickly, and understands how internal and external factors impact decisions.
- Demonstrated experience in building an Accounting function at scale, with the ability to anticipate and get in front of potential roadblocks.
- Public company experience preferred. Experience in growth stage company required.
- Knowledge of NetSuite and Concur a plus.
- Multi-state experience preferred.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
- BA/BS in Accounting or Finance highly preferred or relevant combination of education and work experience
- CPA preferred
