Purpose & Scope:
This position is primarily responsible for the management of all Maintenance and Plant Engineering processes and activities. This hands-on position involves creating, managing, improving, and being actively involved in the internal processes used to proactively maintain manufacturing equipment and facilities, respond to immediate or urgent maintenance requests, managing maintenance technicians and management of all contracted maintenance/engineering services. This position is accountable to assist the VP, Operations to determine suitability of projects proposed to improve manufacturing operational efficiencies, and to manage the implementation of approved projects. Managing Capital Expense Requests for approved projects is expected. This position requires extensive internal and external communication, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are mandatory.
Responsibilities:
- Focus on safety, cost management, and business growth in all interactions and directives.
- Supports safety directives and takes personal responsibility for the safety of all employees.
- Manages all requirements relative to Maintenance and Plant Engineering programs to ensure that equipment is operating such that a satisfactory product is being produced and shipped.
- Develops/reports preventive maintenance procedures, parameters, and metrics to ensure equipment is operating optimally, such that the divisions can meet or exceed its minimum requirements for commercial production/shipments.
- Supervise and develop designated employees (including remote direct reports) to efficiently achieve objectives. Manage maintenance staff coverage as needed, including active back-up of positions as needed due to vacation, illness, etc.
- Responsible for implementation, documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting of preventive maintenance completion rate.
- Accountable for accurate recordkeeping, organization, and maintenance of all related maintenance and equipment documents, records, reports, etc. in hard copy and/or electronic format per company standards.
- Supports quality management system requirements by participating in necessary procedures and tasks including, but not limited to regular system audits.
- Performs non-routine tasks related to plant engineering, and maintenance development and evaluation, as deemed necessary by management.
- Authority to stop production and/or place products on stop if quality, safety, regulatory, specification, or customer criteria are not met.
- Coordinate and institute corrective actions or other related procedures with all internal personnel and functions, including write-ups for management’s attention of instances where company policies and/or procedures are not being followed.
- Other duties may be assigned, possibly outside of normal position scope.
Requirements:
- BS or higher, Maintenance Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
- Maintenance and/or Plant Engineering experience in a chemical manufacturing environment dealing with chemical raw materials and delivery systems; polyurethane experience desirable but not mandatory.
- Strong human relations skills and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to influence others and drive change for continuous improvement efforts.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze data for sound decision making.
- Knowledge and proficiency of computer software and hardware sufficient to perform duties and aptitude to learn new software as needed.
- Ability to work in chemical manufacturing environment involving isocyanates, solvents, and other hazardous materials requiring fitness for respirator use and physical ability to handle containers and equipment necessary to perform duties.
- Must be able to multi-task effectively, close the loop, and follow specific instruction (work instructions, procedures, etc.).
- Ability to travel regularly up to 25% - minimum monthly visits to each A&S manufacturing site.
