Industrial Sewing Machine Operator

Requirements include registering with Jack of All Trades for this position. You will be employed by JOAT for the first 8 weeks prior to coming on as a Direct Hire.

Hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday and 7:30 am to 11:00 am on Friday. No weekends, no nights, and paid holidays.

The Sewing Operator will report to the Sewing Floor Supervisor and will operate and tend sewing machines in order to perform garment sewing operations. This includes joining and reinforcing garments or parts of garments. Sewing machine operators handle work on a large scale as they are required to operate and tend to industrial machinery. Sew Operators mount attachments such as needles and adjust machines according to specifications provided to them.

Responsibilities:
1. Refer to orders for sewing garments
2. Ensure that all materials and supplies are available prior to beginning work
3. Star sewing machinery at the beginning of a shift and test for proper functionality
4. Address any problems faced immediately with Sew Floor Supervisor
5. Draw threads through needles and adjust machine functions to meet the requirements of the sewing project
6. Position materials under needles to sew them together
7. Draw thread through guides, tensions, and needles
8. Observe operations to detect and any faults or defects in stitching
9. Notify Supervisor of any problems during the sewing process
10. Attach elastic to garments as specified
11. Ensure that the finished product conforms to the design
12. Ensure that excess material or threads are cut away from the finished product
13. Examine finished garments for compliance and ensure that appropriate tags are sewed on them
14. Fold all finished garments
15. Box all finished garments

Knowledge, Skills, Ability
1. Must have one year industrial sewing machine experience
2. Be able to examine garments for color, size, and print accuracy
3. Be able to fold garments and pack in a box according to order forms

Pay: From $10.00 per hour
