The position of teacher (grades 9–12) is a full-time, exempt, 10-month position.

Founded in 1997, IDEA is located in a state-of-the-art educational facility in the historic Deanwood community. In addition to rigorous core academics, IDEA offers the Academy of Construction and Design to teach skilled trades, early childhood education classes, green initiatives, and interscholastic sports. Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Development: Design engaging and comprehensive lesson plans aligned with the school's curriculum standards and objectives. Integrate a variety of teaching strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
  • Instruction: Deliver captivating and interactive instruction that promotes critical thinking, analytical skills, and effective communication. Foster a love for literature and language through engaging discussions, close reading, and writing activities.
  • Assessment and Feedback:Evaluate student progress through a variety of assessment methods, including quizzes, tests, essays, projects, and presentations. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their growth and development.
  • Classroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive classroom environment conducive to learning. Set clear expectations for behavior and academic performance, and enforce disciplinary policies consistently and fairly.
  • Individualized Support: Provide additional support and guidance to students who require extra assistance in mastering basic skills or understanding course material. Offer tutoring sessions, extra practice opportunities, and personalized instruction as needed.
  • Parent Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic concerns. Collaborate with parents to support student success and address any challenges that may arise.
  • Professional Development: Stay informed about current trends, research, and best practices in education. Participate in professional development activities, workshops, and conferences to enhance teaching skills and knowledge.
  • Extracurricular Involvement: Participate in extracurricular activities that enrich students' experiences and further their passion for learning..Provide additional student support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Required)
  • Two years of teaching experience in a high-need, high performing school and evidence of impact on student learning in that setting (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with the Danielson’s Framework (Strongly preferred)
