Toolroom Supervisor

1. Scope:

The Toolroom Supervisor provides leadership in the manufacture, repair and maintenance of tools and dies necessary for our Smyrna TN Ideal operation.  The Toolroom supervisor directs specific attention needs on managing the short term and long-term needs and of Toolroom personnel in a safe and efficient manner.  The Toolroom supervisor is expected to take a leadership role in safety and continuous improvement as well as developing a competent, effective staff through capable leadership and personnel administration.

1. Responsibility and Authority:

• Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Assure compliance to all required industry standards and government requirements as stated in the Ideal-Tridon Quality Manual, Quality Management System, process documentation and all Company Human Resources, Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines to ensure customer requirements are met.
• Responsibility and authority to shutdown machine operation when quality, safety, or environmental issue arise.  The operator will notify the supervisor, lead, or other appropriate manager.
• Responsibility and authority to correct die issues to meet customer requirements.
• Maintain and protect all company, supplier, and customer proprietary and confidential information.
• Understand the process of containing nonconforming product and writing a RID.

1. Essential Functions:

• Coordinate servicing tooling for various production departments as well as planning and providing leadership in maintenance repair and construction of progressive dies and various tooling for Ideal’s manufacturing needs.
• Ensure all Toolroom department personnel adhere to all applicable department and plant safety and environmental policies and procedures.
• Manage training of personnel, including sponsor certifications and hands-on training.   Serve as a mentor.
• Establish or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.
• Recommend improvements to Toolroom and production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
• Suggest changes to increase efficiency of shop and department.
• Analyze and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
• Maintain time and production records.
• Generate monthly reports which reflect the activity and productivity of the shop.
• Ensure compliance with Quality Management System and Environmental Management System.
• Satisfactory completes the Toolroom Training Instruction Checklist.
• When necessary may perform other typical duties.

1. Position Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education and experience.
• Three to five years related Toolroom management experience or equivalent education and experience.
• Must be skilled in interpreting engineering drawings and tooling specifications.
• Journey Level Tool & Die Maker-hands –on experience is required in metal stamping progressive die environment preferably in a leadership role.
• Have prior experience and understanding of tool steels, heat treating, Machining Centers, EDM equipment and related manual toolroom equipment and processes.
• Excellent communication skills and technical ability to effectively interact with tool room, manufacturing and product engineering departments within the company.

1. Physical Requirements:

Frequent to occasional standing and walking, and occasional bending and stooping in order to lift weights up to 80 pounds.  Have dexterity to use both hands and arms to operate shop equipment and utilize keyboard for computer and hand tools.  Maintain regular attendance and overtime requirements.  Must have adequate vision to read and understand prints and written instructions.  Communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
