Job Summary: Performs set-ups and production runs on CNC turning centers. Loads and unloads parts from CNC lathe as needed. Also assists with product assembly. Reads and interprets blue-prints and diagrams, produces quality parts, and performs quality sub-assembly duties. Performs daily machine maintenance.
Essential Functions:
- Sets up and runs production per schedule.
- Uses and maintains setup books for production jobs.
- Makes quality parts using proper machining practices.
- Checks parts against inspection drawings and makes necessary tool offsets to keep parts within acceptable tolerances; changes tools and inserts as necessary.
- Keeps all gauges, special tools and fixtures organized and in good working order.
- Completes daily maintenance on machines, including way lube, coolant, grease and oil.
- Keeps machines and area clean and organized.
- Works closely with Machine Shop Coordinator in problem solving and developing new products and procedures.
- Prepares machine for overnight run when necessary.
- Cuts or makes fixtures and tools when requested as they relate to a job.
- Notifies Machine Shop Coordinator of material, tool or machine related problems.
- Participates in Lean process improvement activities and supports 5S initiatives.
- Logs production data and reports production & scrap data accurately.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Non-essential Functions:
- May be requested to work on special projects.
- May assist in other areas of production as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to set up and operate CNC lathes and mills.
- Ability to operate ProtoTrak mill, manual mills and lathes.
- Ability to read specs, drawings, and gauges related to the job.
- Ability to read and understand CNC programs.
- Ability to perform machine maintenance.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Attention to Detail.
- Ability to produce quality product in a productive manner.
- Ability to improve processes through continuous improvement, setup reduction & Lean principles.
Working Conditions: Shop environment. Involves standing. May involve stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling, and exposure to coolant, oil, mist and fumes.
Tools and/or Equipment Used: Mazak multi spindle turning centers with live tooling, Manual lathe, manual mill, Prototrak mill, tumbler, gauges, drawing and blueprints. Uses a variety of hand tools. May run other production-related equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with CNC Equipment, Mazak preferred.
- Experience with manual machines.
- High school diploma or equivalent degree
- Understands Lean concepts of process improvement, 5S and elimination of waste.
- Preferred completion of vocational related classes in vocational school or course setting.
Success Factors:
- Ability to perform manual lathe, manual and prototrak mill operations with little waste and few errors.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs, gauges, and machine programs.
- Ability to problem solve.
- Ability to identify where lathe and mill processes and functions may be improved.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $30.00 per hour
