JOB OPPORTUNITY

 

Director of Development

 

The Director of Development (DOD) leads the Development Staff in pursuit of goals handed down from the Board, President, and Senior Vice President of Advancement (SVPA). He/she works with the SVPA and the staff to generate financial resources for the school. The Director represents the department and the school to internal and external constituencies when required. He/she also serves as the primary liaison to various departments across campus, including business, marketing, and more. The DOD also takes ownership of planned giving and institutional giving, and oversight and daily management of the team. Hybrid position being able to work from home but must be on campus sometimes. Housing is not provided.

 

The DOD reports to the SVPA. This position may require some non-regular work hours.

 

Individual and Planned Giving

 

  • With the SVPA, formulate effective goals, objectives, strategies, activities, and benchmarks for a comprehensive program to secure major gifts, planned gifts, and budget-relieving gifts for IA.
  • Actively manage a portfolio of of assigned principal, leadership, major, and planned giving prospects and donors through active participation in their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Meet minimum metrics and annually established goals for visits, meetings, contacts, asks, and dollars raised/pledged as laid out with SVPA
  • Develop program strategies and plan high-end fundraising activities to grow engagement opportunities designed to encourage major and planned gifts.
  • Educate IA's constituent base about the benefits of planned gifts and grow the Beatrice Krone Society
  • Develop and promote ideas, methods, and devices for donors' estate planning needs
  • Identify and meet with potential planned giving donors, educate them about bequests, trusts, and other estate planning devices, and ask them to include IA in their plans

 

Management of Staff and Programs

  • Lead IA's efforts to foster a culture of engagement and giving among all our constituencies by overseeing staff management
  • As needed supports SVPA's management of the team to ensure best practices across all
  • development functions including donor stewardship, data management, research, and reporting
  • Develops and maintains the staff, policies, and procedures for the department
  • Manages the department budget
  • Plans and reporting of all revenues/gifts/pledges and related forecasts and analysis'
  • Supports Development Staff management of an assigned portfolio of prospects, donors, and annual programs through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship methods
  • Ensure operating plans for all staff are developed and refined as requested by SVPA
  • Supports the SVPA by providing guidance, reports, etc., and keeping him/her informed of department activities
  • Acts as primary liaison to marketing, communications, business and finance, and other departments as needed and in the absence of the SVPA
  • Partners with Marketing and Communications to create impactful fundraising collateral and stewardship materials for all constituencies, including print, digital, and social media tactics
  • Work with board members, volunteers, and others as needed

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and CRM donor database systems with a
preference for experience using Raiser's Edge.

Education/Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree a plus
  • 10 years of nonprofit fundraising experience preferred
  • 5 years of experience managing staff
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
  • Proven record of meeting financial goals for development programs over $2,000,000
  • Experience working with volunteers and board members
  • CFRE preferred

 

Other Requirements

 

  • Ability and desire to work and live within the Idyllwild community, Riverside County, or commute a reasonable distance, that does not impede on-time arrival during winter months.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid California Driver's License, pass a criminal history background check as required by California Education Code Section 44237, and pass a TB screening questionnaire/test.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • While performing the duties of this position an incumbent is required to:
  • Regularly remain sedentary for long periods of time in meetings and while processing
  • information and paperwork both manually and on a computer.
  • Specific vision abilities include close, distance, and color vision perception and the ability to
  • adjust eye focus. Reaching with the hands and arms and use of hands to finger, type, and
  • manipulate a computer keyboard and mouse is required.
  • The incumbent must be able to converse in clear English both written and orally, over a
  • telephone and in person, and be able to make public presentations.
  • Work hours vary and may include days, nights, and weekends.
