What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Director position at IES Schools?

We are seeking a Part Time Special Education Director to join our team. Key aspects of this role include:
- Staffing- planning and projections related to special education programming and staffing needed.
- Compliance-Oversee all SE state and local compliance processes (Catamaran, Medicaid, State Assessment, IEP, etc.). Create with the staff needed procedures around compliance. Conduct training, when needed. Do accountability checks.
- Training-create and conduct training around specialized instruction (co-teaching) or procedures (ESY, IEP)
- Program Evaluation-includes everything from ensuring caseloads are within state limits to assessing curriculum being used to maximize student outcomes, to rolling out new models that will enhance LRE for students
- Problem-solving-support IEP teams with everything related to the IEP. Support tricky situations that could rise to state complaint/due process level. Support principals and other leaders as well-with discipline, placement decisions, service models. Help individuals and teams through a myriad of issues that arise (student not making progress, FBA's/BIP's, program needs, budgetary constraints, parent complaints, etc.)
- Proactive-support teams in being proactive with systems and processes; sometimes outside of SE. Have helped teams refine Child Study procedures and have an active leadership role in building MTSS teams. Stay abreast of legal changes or research in the field; pass these down to staff.
Qualifications include * Masters’ Degree in Special Education or related Education Field.
- Michigan Special Education certification
- Michigan School Administration Certification preferred
- Teaching experience in Special Education
- Expertise in special education law and compliance
