Job Description Summary The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will contribute to the team responsible for Small Modular Reactor Internals Hardware and Control Rod Drive design. In this role, the Design Engineer will perform activities within a team environment, working with a global team of partner organizations and suppliers to advance the Natrium and X-300 plant detailed design. The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified remote candidates will be considered. Job Description Essential: Demonstrates accountability for cost, schedule, quality, and technical accuracy of assigned tasks. Takes personal responsibility, understanding impact of design and associated risk. Considers customer needs and maintains open communication with interfacing engineers and project stakeholders. Responsible for supporting work on projects with low to high complexity Responsible for equipment requirement specifications and drawings, and evaluation & assistance in selection of vendors Support vendor manufacturing (respond to questions/requests, review submittals, witness tests) Execute the design, test, or integration required to define and support assignments related to operating plant reactor vessels, reactor internal components, fine motion control rod drives, hydraulic control units, and other ASME equipment that meet business standards and program / product requirements Performance of fundamental engineering hand calculations and modeling Developing design of mechanical components and equipment Assessing failure modes, causality and risk Preparing and presenting technical data to internal customers Lead/facilitate discussion and information exchange to promote open dialogue including working effectively in a matrixed team environment Ensuring that product designs meet all intended application design requirements by working with experts in other functional teams Prepare invention disclosures to protect the technology that provides a competitive advantage to the business Participate and lead teams assigned to address specific organizational initiatives Mentor team members Basic Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or other engineering field (or degreed professional with 10 years of nuclear experience) Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international plant sites 7 years of experience in heavy industrial, thermal power, or nuclear industry working in mechanical equipment and component design, including specification of design requirements, design development, procurement, test, and fabrication/installation support 7 years of excellent knowledge, skill and experience with PC and desktop engineering productivity software (e.g.; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio), various computer aided design 3D computer aided design (CAD) or analysis and modeling tools as well as project collaboration tools (PLM, Documentum, Doors Next Generation) Eligibility Requirements: Ability and willingness to travel to domestic and international plant sites 5-10% The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters Wilmington, NC but qualified remote candidates will be considered. Desired Qualifications: Minimum of 9 years of experience with technical support of Boiling Water Reactors (BWR), Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) and /or other complex mechanical equipment design technical environment 9 years of experience performing independent, or preferably team based, equipment/component design of technical reviews including product requirements management, technical risk tracking/retirement, technical reviews, procurement and fabrication support 9 years of experience with applicable industry standards (e.g.; ASME, AWS, BWRVIP reports) Master of Science Degree in Engineering Discipline Proven ability to think strategically, be creative and move quickly Quick learner, able to sort through information and make timely and sound decisions Experience with Sodium Fast Reactor technology and design Experience with Control Rod Drives or Fine Motion Control Rod Drives Experience analyzing, and solving moderately complex design problems Strong oral and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to write organized engineering documents Strong interpersonal and proven leadership skills Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD design Proficiency with ANSYS FEA analysis The salary range for this position is $109-163k. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. In addition, this position is eligible for a performance bonus.
