Cytogenetic Laboratory Technologist
This is an on-site position located in Miami, Florida
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and oversight of the laboratory operation and personnel performing testing and reporting test results.
- Must be accessible to Testing Personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation to resolve technical problems in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Must be onsite on a regular basis to provide direct supervision.
- Is responsible for monitoring test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.
The Laboratory Director delegates to the Cytogenetic Laboratory Technologist the responsibility for:
- Assuring that all non-conformities are placed, and remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications, specifically if the Laboratory Director is not available.
- Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is properly functioning.
- Providing orientation and training to all Testing Personnel and ensuring educational programs for the medical and laboratory staff are provided. Ensuring ongoing competency of all individuals who perform testing; remedial training or continuing education needs are identified, and training provided.
- Supporting clients with their consultations on a daily basis.
- Ensuring all work performed in the laboratory is monitored to determine that medically reliable data are being generated and correlates laboratory data for diagnosis and patient management.
- Enrollment of the laboratory in a CMS-approved proficiency testing (PT) program for the test performed and ensuring PT samples are tested in accordance with the CLIA requirements.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or relevant degrees.
- Must hold an valid Supervisor-Cytogenetic License.
- 3 year experience performing testing of patient samples and related duties in a CLIA-regulated laboratory post certification, post-graduation.
- Relevant molecular skill set consisting of the molecular fundamentals, RNA and DNA extraction, PCR, and gel electrophoresis will be plus.
- Experience with real time PCR, microarray or sequencing preferred.
- Demonstrate clear ability to explain experience with specific instrument platforms, including test principle(s), what controls were in place, and how results were interpreted and reported out.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Highly organized and strong work ethic.
- Understanding of the equipment used daily; including, but not limited to centrifuges, thermal cyclers, and real-time PCR analyzers
- Understanding of CLIA requirements and experience with CAP inspections for compliance with Checklist requirements.
- Ability to work independently and having experience in genetics or molecular biology techniques are a plus.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-past, deadline-driven environment.
- Communication - Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including ability to write clear reports and detailed laboratory procedures with correct grammar and spelling. Willingness to share and receive information and ideas from all levels of the organization in order to achieve the desired results.

- Willingness to work different shifts is required.
- Rotation is required for Weekends/Nights/Holidays.
