Job Description: The Medical Technologist/MLS Advanced is an experienced Registered MLS/Med Tech who assists the Supervisor, Manager, or Coordinator with advanced technical functions within the department they are supporting. These caregivers operate at an advanced level, overseeing quality control, advanced instrument maintenance, and may serve on or lead various facility or system work groups. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement into Technical or Supervisory positions. The Med Tech/MLS Advanced is an experienced Registered MLS/Med Tech who supports the Supervisor or Manager with technical oversight of department equipment, processes, and quality assurance, in addition to working their assigned bench schedule. These caregivers have advanced troubleshooting skills and clinical laboratory knowledge. Caregivers in this role may serve as key operators and as a primary technical resource to other laboratory staff. The Advanced MLS ensures department regulatory compliance and may assist with system and on-site CAP inspections. Intermountain caregivers in this role may have additional responsibilities and development opportunities, such as: Leading department quality management programs Leading and assisting with new instrument evaluation and implementation Attending instrument workshops and vendor training Coordinating research studies Developing and refining policies and procedures Training and mentoring students and other team members Acting as interim Supervisor or Manager Leading or serving on system or facility Work Groups and initiatives Managing CAP Proficiency Testing and/or personnel rosters This position maintains their bench proficiency and may be required to work holidays and weekends and be available on-call. Caregivers in this role have strong organizational skills as well as the ability to navigate many technical processes with a high level of detail. These caregivers work well as a member of a team and maintain a clean and safe work environment. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Medical Technologist/Medical Lab Scientist certification or equivalent as approved by the Manager and Human Resources. Certification must be maintained to remain in the job. Two years of clinical laboratory experience. Experience with laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets. Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person. Experience with Laboratory regulatory agencies. Experience writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and writing other analytical documentation. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call. Preferred Qualifications Experience leading training and education of staff at all levels. Experience developing, leading, implementing department initiatives Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements Interact with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information. Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and hands. See and read lab equipment, monitors, and documents. Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer or other equipment.
