Basic Function of the Job: Performs a wide variety of boule and wafer fabrication tasks in support of the production process, volume manufacturing processes and RD&E for Advanced Materials products. Responsible for the operation and maintenance of process equipment including: Multi-Wire Saws, External (O.D.) Grinders, Surface Grinder, and X-Ray equipment. Must be able to articulate various types of hand tools and power tools such as a Bandsaw, Belt Sander, and Dye Grinder required to carry out the task at hand. Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work station according to 5S practices. Supports the scale-up of fabrication capabilities to keep pace with ever changing production levels. Contributes to the continuous improvement of fabrication capabilities to an industry leadership position. Participates in Advanced Materials Environmental, Health and Safety activities. Responsible for the II-VI ESGP appraisal system as it relates to your own career and personal development.

Job Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma plus additional training in fabrication or machining and equipment maintenance.

Experience:

  • 1-4 years of hands-on laboratory and/or production experience in process intensive environments
  • Experience with precision measurement methods and systems
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and process procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and procedures closely while offering suggestions for continuous improvement
  • Experience with networked PC based computer system (spreadsheets, Email, MRP systems)

Special Skills:

  • Broad, practical knowledge of semiconductor wafer fabrication and hands-on experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of fabrication process tools (Wire-saws, , Grinders, X-rays, Cleaning Equipment ) in an industrial environment
  • Well-honed observational skills that enable the rapid identification of operating problems/abnormalities
  • Ability to train new or inexperienced operators or technicians to operate fabrication equipment and processes.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work effectively with process development tools and systems such as SPC, DOE and ISO 9000 methodologies
  • Capability to quickly respond to unusual events, emergencies and/or accidents.

1) Fabrication Processing 55%

  • High efficiency and throughput are maintained in the operation of the x-ray boule orientation equipment, , OD grinder, Flat Grinder, wire saws, cleaning equipment, and other related equipment.
  • Quality levels attained after each fabrication step are closely monitored and maintained by utilizing SPC tracking/analysis methods where appropriate.
  • All machine operations follow established written procedures.
  • Data is recorded and entered in the database in a timely manner.
  • Performs weekly inventory counts of production and R&D boules in WIP.
  • Maintains schedules and documentation for production orders and samples.
  • Inspects and documents product quality. Communicates problems, results, and important issues to the team in a timely manner.
  • Identifies ways to improve fab process efficiency, productivity and quality.

2) Production Support 25%

  • Inventories of critical fabrication supplies and spare parts are monitored and maintained at levels appropriate to the support of efficient and cost effective RD&E and production activities.
  • Fabrication equipment is kept in “high-performance” condition through the execution of an appropriate preventative maintenance program. Trouble-shooting of fabrication equipment is conducted in a highly efficient and effective manner.
  • Machinery breakdowns are met with timely actions to minimize process downtime, negative throughput impact and/or damage to program schedules.
  • Maintains clean and organized work areas

3) Environmental, Health & Safety 5%

  • Supports initiatives to continuously improve and reduce variations in specific operations or processes, including Six Sigma training, process control charting, process capability studies, and lean manufacturing.
  • New equipment installations are supported in conjunction with the responsible engineers and supervisors.
  • Supports and responds to requests for assistance with customer related quality and delivery issues.
  • Shop procedures are formalized and documented in a format that meets ISO requirements and Division standards.
  • Provides training to new employees as needed.

4) Other support 5%

  • Actively supports company-wide environmental, health and safety programs including radiation safety for work with X-ray equipment.
  • Quickly responds to correct any environmental, health or safety hazard.
  • Provides and supports the evolution and operation of an EHS program

5) Human Resources / Administrative 5%

  • An ESGP is co-developed and pursued.
  • Accurate recording of work is maintained
  • Company policy is followed regarding all safety, environmental and ergonomic requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining a quality work environment housekeeping standards.
  • Cooperative in working with others.
  • Adapts readily to changes in work caused by new requirements and/or situations.
