COMPENSATION: $88,130.79 - $92,537.33/year (DOE) Benefits, Non-Exempt Regular Full-Time Management Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The position is responsible for working with and leading the administrative leadership and management of the College’s Career & Workforce Development division. This primarily includes daily oversight of the Career & Workforce Development employees. This position plays a key role in being a liaison between community and colleges career and technical needs while aligning with the College’s vision, mission, goals and student learning outcomes.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the Career & Workforce Development day-to-day operations.
  • Supervise and mentor day-to-day Career & Workforce Development employees and identify professional development opportunities.
  • Apprise and advise the Dean on daily operations of the Career & Workforce Development employees.
  • Works with Dean of Academic Affairs to review, develop, and implement instructional policies and procedures pertaining to Career & Workforce Development.
  • Work with the Iḷisaġvik College Grants Department as well as grantors at the federal, state, and community level to ensure the financial viability of the Career and Workforce Development Department.
  • Serve as liaison between local and statewide businesses and the Construction Trades department to coordinate both student placement in post-graduate opportunities and keep apprised of community needs in the Construction Trades.
  • Develops educational pathways that prioritize career & technical education (CTE) credentials and certifications that result in direct placement in the workforce.
  • Provide and prepare data, presentations, and reports as requested to support funding opportunities and partnership opportunities that align with current and emerging training needs that will lead to revenue and growth opportunities for the college within the CTE realm.
  • Keeps abreast and be responsive with local economic and workforce trends; works to capture labor market needs.
  • Ensures consistent formal and informal community connections in the realm of career & workforce development (workforce specific roundtables, employer visits, casual coffee and meet and greet networking sharing & opportunities).
  • Ensures clear, frequent, effective communication & collaboration with internal divisions and external employer and industry stakeholders.
  • Serves as a liaison between the College and North Slope employers and community leaders for the purpose of coordinating and developing creditable courses that meet the training needs of the North Slope residents.
  • Responsible for preparing and managing the Career & Workforce general budget and grant oversight.
  • Monitors and delegates grant reporting, proposals, and grant modification completed by the Career & Workforce staff; oversees the Technical Vocational Education Program (TVEP) grant process and reporting.
  • Oversees management of departmental consultant contracts and MOUs/MOAs; assists in developing grant partnerships.
  • Develops annual statistical reports, prepares reports to comply with regulatory or funding requirements, and provides instructional and accreditation reports as required.
  • Oversees the scheduling of all Career & Workforce Development Classes; Identify instructors, teach classes that do not affect primary job functions.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Understanding of the basic function and mission of community colleges.
  • Work-readiness and labor market orientation.
  • Demonstrated grant and budget management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills; and strong English language oral and written communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and situational analysis; Comfortable with ambiguity and new situations.
  • Research skills (data collection, analysis, data storytelling).
  • Project management and oversight; Detail oriented; Ability to prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to mentor & develop staff, delegate tasks, provide feedback, and mitigate/mediate conflict.
  • Computer and technology skills, as needed to perform duties.
  • Ability to interact with senior level executives and the President.
  • Self-starter who can work independently with a minimum of direction and supervision.
  • Ability to thrive in a rural and geographically remote environment with arctic climate [Utqiaġvik lies 320 mi (510 km) north of the Arctic Circle].
  • Ability to travel periodically for professional meetings or development – may be in small plane to remote villages.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.


EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five years demonstrated professional supervisory work experience.
  • Demonstrated management experience in a post-secondary setting.


 

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

  • Master’s Degree or above. Education, training, or credentials in and/or experience managing Vocational Education, Career & Technical Education, or Construction Trades Technology Education.
  • Experience working with or for Career and Technical Centers.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/pay period for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

Life Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
