Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire an Institutional Maintenance Worker for the Choate Mental Health & Developmental Center located in Anna, Illinois to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks, including building and grounds maintenance and cleaning facility vehicles, equipment, and machinery. Delivers supplies, furniture, and laundry at facility. Cleans and waxes floors; operates and maintains complex housekeeping equipment. Provides guidance, direction, and training to general assistance workers. Assists skilled crafts such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters and steamfitters in the repair and maintenance of various facility equipment.

Job Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks, including building and grounds maintenance, cleaning facility vehicles and equipment and machinery.
• Provides guidance, direction, and training to general assistance workers.
• Maintains the automated scrubber in proper working order, charges batteries, changes brushes and greases and oils working parts.
• Moves furniture, laundry, various supplies, trash, and drugs by cart.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to completion of high school and one (1) year’s related experience preferably associated with the building/mechanical trades.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
• Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
• Requires ability to work under adverse environmental conditions.
• Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
