Research Station Manager
Illinois Foundation Seeds, Inc. is seeking a professional to join the vegetable breeding and research department at our Plover, WI location. In the role of Research Station Manager, you will oversee the operations, ensuring a seamless and secure functioning at the research facility. Beyond operational responsibilities, the research station manager will be instrumental in fostering collaboration both internally and externally. Additionally, this role will contribute significantly to translating research findings into tangible applications, ultimately improving vegetable genetics.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee all aspects of the vegetable research station, ensuring the facility is well-maintained and equipped with necessary resources
  • Collaborate with breeders and staff to plan, execute, and monitor research projects
  • Work closely with breeders and staff to ensure data is collected from nurseries and trials timely and accurately
  • Manage facility budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in sweet corn research and technology, integrating relevant innovations into breeding programs
  • Ensure all tasks are completed in a safe, accurate and efficient manner and lead process improvement in these areas
  • Contract required nursery and trial acres with local growers to maximize research value
  • Oversee equipment repair and maintenance
  • Implement and lead site safety plan
  • Lead a team of researchers, technicians, and support staff, fostering a collaborative and innovative work culture
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to team members
  • Support product team through organizing field days and client visits
Requirements:
  • M.Sc. or B.S. and equivalent experience in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Horticulture, Crop Science, or a related field
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations
  • Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively within a team, actively sharing responsibilities, ideas, and inputs to achieve meaningful and thorough outcomes
  • Maintains a positive temperament for effective collaboration with growers, and external stakeholders
  • Capable of working independently and demonstrates effective team leadership and management skills
  • Willing and able to travel to off-site trial locations and contra-season nurseries.
  • A valid driver’s license and passport are required
