Job Summary

The Career Curriculum Development Graduate Assistant will assist their director supervisor and the Student Relations Team in achieving the mission, vision, and goals of Career Services. The GA will be responsible for the duties listed below in addition to other duties assigned.

Career & Curriculum Development
- Assist the Career Curriculum Development Advisor with planning course content, assessing course effectiveness, and implementing continuous plans for course improvement for all courses administered by Career Services.
- Research best practices of career and curriculum development to improve training, course materials, and resources.
- Assist Career Services staff in the execution of events for career-related courses
- Plan, organize, and execute Career Chats program
- Provide administrative, strategic, and instructional support for career preparation courses across campus with Career Services academic partners and assist with strengthening collegial relationships.
- Conduct career-related workshops/presentations for undergraduates in career preparation courses across campus
- Attend professional development sessions related to career and curriculum development as well as those related to Illinois State University's strategic plan and mission
- Participate on office teams and committees and assume leadership when requested.

Advising & Presentations
- Facilitate one-on-one career advising sessions with students regarding career readiness (resume and cover letter writing/reviews; interview preparation; mock interviews; job and internship search strategies; and general career inquiries) and career exploration.
- Educate students on the appropriate use of Career Services' resources.
- Record advising meeting notes in a timely fashion
- Individualize career advising sessions based upon analysis of audience needs.
- Counsel students during career advising sessions to pursue career goals and/or career exploration and encourage follow-up with a career advisor as needed.
- Present career-related workshops/presentations for undergraduates, Registered Student Organizations (RSOs), and additional groups as assigned.
- Individualize presentations based on audience needs.

Programs and Events
- Collaborate with alumni, employers, and Career Services team members in the planning and execution of programs and events such as Career Chats.
- Plan, organize and execute programs/events as assigned.

Administrative/Meetings
- Attend Career Services meetings, training, and professional development sessions as required.
- Advocate for ideas in the development of new career programming based on the needs of campus constituents.
- Maintain work calendar and respond to correspondence in a timely fashion.

The Career Curriculum Development Graduate Assistant will provide administrative and strategic support to uphold the objectives of Career Services. The GA will provide career-related assistance to students at Illinois State University. Additionally, the GA will support curriculum development initiatives in Career Services by collaborating with the Career Curriculum Development Advisor on all courses administered through Career Services and will also represent Career Services at university-sponsored events.

Salary Rate / Pay Rate

$1300/month

2. Must be a degree seeking graduate student at Illinois State University in any of the following graduate programs: CSPA
3. Detail-oriented, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
4. Ability to work effectively on several projects simultaneously.
5. Ability to work cooperatively in a team.
6. Technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
7. Ability to work some evenings and weekends.

Special Instructions for Applicants

This is a 9 1/2-month Graduate Assistantship with a contract period from August 5, 2024 - May 9, 2025. As a GA, you will be expected to adhere to the University Administrative Calendar and all expectations as set forth in the offer letter. An extension of this appointment is available, pending satisfactory performance.

You must be eligible for employment in the United States and at Illinois State University and/or for the number of hours required for the position.

Illinois State University student employees are restricted to no more than 28 hours per week of on-campus employment for all positions held. International students are restricted by their visa status to no more than 20 hours per week of on-campus employment when the university is in session but may work up to 28 hours per week when the university is not in session. Please contact the Office of International Student and Scholar Services for guidance on visa restrictions on work hours. The University cannot grant exceptions to visa status rules/laws.
