Duties & Responsibilities
· Provide professional service to a diverse student population by giving accurate and timely information when responding to questions posed by prospective and enrolled students, their families, other visitors, administrators, and faculty
o Advise students about the policies and procedures of the Department and College
o Advise students about the programs and graduation requirements of the Department
o Interpret and explain the Code on Campus Affairs and Handbook of Policies and
o Regulations Applying to All Students.
o Counsel students in depth about post-graduate study options
o Assist students with resolution of academic problems
o Create course plans for external students
o Facilitate communication with probation/at-risk students to strategically plan for future success
o Inform and refer students to other institutional resources and services when necessary
o Build a deep knowledge of University, College, and Department processes and policies regarding curriculum changes and other issues relevant to students
o Develop a working knowledge of the accounting profession in order to best advise students
o Explain and illustrate use of the U of I Integrate registration
o Use and interpret U.Achieve (DARS) reports
o Assist with compiling of student data when necessary, using databases such as Web Intelligence Systems
o Utilize the University’s Banner and Slate systems to enhance student advising
· Student Communication & Events
o Work with Assistant Director of Academic & Student Services to strategically plan and execute special events
o Work with fellow Accountancy staff/advisors and Gies College of Business Undergraduate Affairs advisors on initiatives at the discretion of the BSA/MAS Program Director
o Work with the Accountancy staff and advising team on efforts to promote BSA/MAS programs, including social media platforms
o Lead designated BSA/MAS projects designed to improve program admissions and student engagement.
· Misc.
o Assist with hiring and oversight of student workers
o Work effectively with other personnel in the office, College, and campus
o Perform other duties related to the BSA/MAS program as they arise
