Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for an Account Technician II. The successful candidate will perform technical accounting work in maintaining a complex, complete set of general account books which include journals, registers, ledgers and another financial records while serving as a lead worker over lower-level staff. Additionally, this position will perform general clerical work related to budget and payroll functions If interested in this opportunity, please follow the instructions on the job posting. Job Responsibilities

  1. Maintains all records involving inventory including commodities, raw materials, repair parts etc.
  2. Verifies and audits various fiscal reports.
  3. Maintains accounting books.
  4. Assists Business Manager or Administrative Specialist in preparing various reports involving commodities transfers, budget, expenditures, etc.
  5. Executes, prepares and checks for mathematical accuracy of all documents for payment of expenses including contracts, quarterly and annual blanket requisitions.
  6. Serves as designated lead worker.
  7. Prepares monthly individuals in custody payroll.
  8. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college, and one (1) year of technical accounting experience, or four (4) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience. 

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  1. Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience involving inventory of commodities and raw materials.
  2. Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience auditing various fiscal reports.
  3. Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience maintaining accounting records.
  4. Prefers at least two (2) years of work experience preparing various reports involving commodities transfers, budget, and expenditure reports.
  5. Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience investigating open purchase orders.
  6. Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience utilizing an automated accounting system.
  7. Prefers at least one (1) year of work experience preparing payroll reports.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  2. Requires ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
