Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician I for the Ludeman Developmental Center located in Park Forest, Illinois to perform beginning level duties on an assigned unit, on an assigned shift in the direct care of individuals, i.e., bathing, personal hygiene, heavy lifting, heavy carrying and pushing of wheelchairs. Participates in the implementing of individuals’ habilitation plans.  Ensures compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health requirements when performing duties.  Travels in performance of job duties.

 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs beginning level duties on an assigned unit, on an assigned shift in the direct care of individuals.
  2. Receives guidance from higher level staff in the observing and reporting of the condition and behavior or individuals.
  3. Performs general housekeeping tasks, such as, spot mopping, cleaning spills, wiping tables and making beds.
  4. Receives training in and assists higher level technicians with escorting and taking part in individual’s activity/recreational programs, i.e., swimming pool, bowling alley, skating arena and trips to the zoo and lake.
  5. Under supervision, performs simple nursing procedures (TDR’s, BP, weights, collects specimens for lab, etc). 
  6. Completes all in service training for the Mental Health Technician II position.
  7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  2. Requires successful completion of a comprehensive training program at the Mental Health Technician Trainee level.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
  2. Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. 
  3. This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involved lifting no more than 100 pounds at time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  4. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  5. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  6. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  7. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
  8. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related policies and guidance.
