The Inventory Planner will be responsible for developing feasible, long range master inventory plan schedules to ensure optimal inventory levels, meet customer demand, and minimize costs. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong analytical skills to balance supply and demand effectively, manage production schedules, and collaborate with various departments.
Key Accountabilities
Inventory Management
- Balance production and finished good inventory levels with demand to support customer service levels, inventory turn goals, and capacity utilization requirements.
- Monitor production and shipping performance and proactively initiate actions to ensure delivery commitments are fulfilled.
- Analyze inventory data and demand to propose inventory targets that balance customer service, cost, and working capital in an optimal way to achieve aspired business targets, monitor achievement of inventory targets and initiate actions as required.
- Collaborates cross-functionally to establish schedules and plans that allocate available resources to best serve customer needs.
- Participates in forecasting meetings with sales, marketing, and other related departments; leads additional planning meetings with production, shipping, purchasing, and account management.
- Develop an effective master production plan based on analysis of all key supply and demand factors including forecasted customer demand, plant capacity, manufacturing costs, inventory targets and business unit inputs.
- Ensure the master production plan and dates in the ERP system are updated, and provide summary with key data (forecast, planned production, projected inventory to all stakeholders.
- Ensure ABC classifications on Finished Goods are maintained and define run strategies for by ABC class.
- Work with ERP and other tools such as MS Excel to support creation and distribution of master scheduling and production to plan metrics.
- Analyze capacity constraints and develop solutions to optimize inventory flow.
- Partner with Production to manage monthly capacity/labor constraints for a rolling 12 months.
- Recommends and selects alternative schedules to correct short and medium range capacity constraints or material availability issues in a manner that minimizes disruptions, schedule changes, and maintains production up time.
- Work cross functionally to balance supply and demand requirements, resolve issues, and optimize product flow and inventory.
- Facilitate weekly meetings with Scheduler to oversee the weekly and daily production schedule to ensure qualified customer orders are completed and schedules are up-to-date, and any deviations are transparent
- Work with procurement, and suppliers to provide raw material requirements and forecasting information based on semi-finished goods and finished goods production needs.
- Manages and updates ERP relative to life cycle management of raw materials.
- Participates in inventory/production decisions for phase out items.
- Review and disposition obsolete and no-demand inventory.
- Perform inventory liability analysis for "end of program" and "end of life cycle" management.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Logistics or related field, or equivalent experience
- APICS CPIM or CSCP certification preferred.
- 3-5 years of experience in inventory planning, production scheduling or similar role.
- Experience in CPG manufacturing and distribution preferred.
- Strong Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in inventory management and ERP software. Advanced Excel skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and high level of accuracy.
- Knowledge of supply chain management principles and practices
- This role operates in a professional office environment where the noise level is moderate.
- The employee must be able to work in a highly fragranced environment.
