MARKET MICROSTRUCTURE ENGINEER / ULTRA LOW-LATENCY PERFORMANCE Trading nowadays happens in a highly competitive technological landscape; the best trading idea alone doesn’t cut it anymore. ULTRA LOW-LATENCY PERFORMANCE ENGINEERING AT IMC As a market microstructure engineer at IMC you will join a team of technologists and statisticians trying to quantify the technology behind the markets - a new breed of quants, focusing on technology rather than on financial markets. You will: Analyze, optimize, and continuously tune the complete trading environment in order to improve performance of our low latency trading systems on financial exchanges. Define the direction for critical investment decisions by analyzing complex technical problems in a self-directed manner. Apply statistical modelling techniques to a variety of large data sets to find technological alpha. Understand internal and external developments in technology, as well as competitor approaches that can help improve IMC performance. Build elaborate models for information flow for both intra and inter-exchange. Design, develop, test and deploy simple, elegant and reusable code. Build IMC's knowledge base to ensure deep understanding of exchange infrastructure and protocols. Work closely with traders and other technology teams (locally and globally) to drive global thinking, information sharing, and sustainable, long-term solutions. WHAT MAKES IT FUN? WHO YOU ARE: 3 years experience in at least one of the areas: statistics and modelling, distributed systems, computer networks, operating system architecture, ultra-low latency, financial markets. A deep passion for working with data and belief that we can understand the world through statistical modelling. A strong desire for dissecting technology, reverse engineering and understanding how things work under the cover. When you look at the watch, your first thought is how do the second and minute hands move exactly? Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas. Ability to see opportunities and to make them happen. Strong analytical and quantitative abilities. Proficiency in a programing language, preferably Python or C . OOP is very beneficial. Understanding of networked systems (TCP/IP, UDP, IP multicast) and/or Linux with a focus on operating system internals is a plus. Ability to work without supervision; a true self starter.
