JOB TITLE: Director of Trades
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Trades
SUMMARY
The Director of Trades (DOT) mananges day to day operations of placing/staffing a qualified workforce in multiple major operational areas in CONUS and Hawaii. Using internal Resource Tracking Software, manpower assets are managed and tracked to meet current project demands, and forecasted into the future to meet all future company objectives. Maintains a continuous plan for manning projects and communicates regularly with project supervisors to stay ahead of manpower demand surges. Stays in tune with all project operations, company-wide, and manages up to 30% of workforce on travel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with leaders at all levels, provides direction and guidance to Superintendents and Foreman
- Prepares company-wide production resource projections
- Recruit skilled ?travelers?
- Manages trades department personnel assets to meet project demands during ?surges? and ?dips?
- Develop and implement training programs for the trades department workforce, including Foreman/Superintendents
- Ensure trades personnel are current in certifications and qualifications to meet all contract specific requirements
- Conduct compensation research, define wage range guidelines and ensure consistency across the organization
- Analyze labor/market rates and trends and financial impacts
- Develops production ?output? metrics and administer ?production incentive? programs with key project leaders
- Maintains consistent counselling & discipline approach
- Document and apply best practices & processes
- Ensures the ?Resource Tracking System? is maintained up to date and review regularly for ?cross region? opportunities
- Work closely with regional Business Unit Leaders and Administrative Professionals in the course of all duties
- Participate in workforce development processes to ensure peak readiness of our workforce to meet current and future demands
- Plans and coordinates relocation of workforce as needed from region to region based on regional project demands. Workforce size averages 800 employees with 30% continuously in a traveling status.
- Perform other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- Manage the Trades Coordinator team and oversees daily workflows and schedules
- Supervise regional Administrative Professionals in functions connected to Trades
- Assist in hiring of Trades Department employees, both skilled and semi-skilled
- Conduct performance evaluations, providing recommendations for promotion and compensation adjustments
- Processes or assists with disciplinary actions and termination of employees in accordance with company policy

EXPERIENCE
- Must have proven track record in leadership/management roles responsible for efficient placement of workforce personnel across multiple locations/areas of operations
- Successful experience managing the cycles of the workforce based on project demands, locations, and needs
- Comprehensive background maintaining continuous manning curves and lines of balance of qualified workforce
- Prior leadership or management experience in staffing/recruiting roles for nation-wide operations is a plus
- Experience in marine ship repair, blasting and coating industry, or industrial services are desired, but not mandatory
- Must be experienced in all Microsoft Office products and using tools and reports to drive efficient decisions
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Most work is performed in an office environment. Regular visits are made to contractor work sites and aboard vessels, barges, crafts, and ships. Climbing, bending, stooping, and crouching are required during scoping, fact-finding, inspections, and review of contractor's operations and work. Hard hats and other necessary safety equipment/gear are required on these visits.
- Required to travel occasionally both locally and to other geographical areas as required. Work may sometimes require ship board checks, meetings and inspections
