Job Summary:
The Skilled Laborer will perform advanced physical tasks and skilled labor to support construction projects. Responsibilities include building, erecting, installing, and repairing structures made from wood and other materials, requiring a high level of craftsmanship and technical knowledge.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Measure, mark, and arrange materials based on blueprints or detailed instructions from supervisors.
- Precisely cut, shape, and assemble wood and steel products.
- Operate advanced hand and power tools to construct and secure structures.
- Join materials using industry-standard fasteners, including nails, screws, staples, and adhesives.
- Ensure project accuracy using levels, framing squares, and other precision tools, correcting errors as needed.
- Install windows, doors, and specialized fixtures according to project blueprints and specifications.
- Ensure adherence to local building codes, safety standards, and construction guidelines.
- Prepare job sites for specialized tasks by setting up equipment and staging materials for skilled workers.
- Operate machinery and equipment as needed for precision tasks.
- Perform detailed site cleanups at the end of each day, ensuring the proper handling of tools and materials.
- Perform other skilled tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of construction practices, including carpentry and structural work.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical instructions.
- Proficient in solving complex mathematical problems related to measurements and material estimation.
- Expertise in the use and maintenance of both hand and power tools.
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a skilled team.
- High attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of vocational school, technical college, or apprenticeship program OR at least three years of skilled labor or carpentry experience required.
- Valid state driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds regularly.
- Proficiency in working with sharp tools and power equipment.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions and terrains.
- Strong manual dexterity, balance, and hand-eye coordination.
