Seeking an Electrical Engineer Manager to provide a wide range of engineering support to the company’s fleet of power generating facilities.This includes providing subject matter expertise on all heavy electrical equipment, managing regulatory compliance programs, and support renewable development activities. The ideal individual will have excellent communication skills plus a combination of strong field engineering experience, troubleshooting, project management, power systems and transmission modeling. The Sr, Electrical Engineer will work closely and collaboratively with all levels of the organization from the Corporate C level, to plant staff and regulatory agencies. The individual will report to the Sr. Director Plant Performance.
Role and Responsibilities:
Provide subject matter expertise for High Voltage Electrical equipment
Support all company Interconnection projects across multiple ISOs for Solar and Battery Energy Storage Projects
Provide NERC compliance oversight of all facilities and manage O&M service provider supporting day to day NERC compliance
Support other Solar and Battery Energy Storage Development activities
Promote safety by ensuring overall safe equipment condition and operation through enforcement of industry and company standards, policies and procedures
Make technical decisions within area of competence with regard to decisions to accept as fit for purpose equipment, materials or components that are not in accordance with the original intent by virtue of wear and tear, defects, faults in manufacture or erection and where such decisions are made, to identify specific operating or maintenance restrictions that should be put in place in order to maintain an adequate level of risk
Prepare project analysis, budgets, schedules, and plans
Prepare, implement, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the engineering deliverables for electrical projects and major equipment such as power transformers, power circuit breakers, control house, and other low to high-voltage related materials including:
equipment and construction specifications
physical general arrangements
electrical one-line
all associated electrical calculations and studies
construction permit development
apply field mark-ups of project as-built drawings
analyze bids and recommend selection of equipment and/or constructor
Work closely with colleagues at the site to investigate and conduct root cause analysis of underperforming plant areas or systems and to identify options for the mitigation or elimination of these deficiencies
Support day-to-day operational activities, outage work, new projects and programs as required
Familiar with state and federal safety, regulatory compliance requirements, and construction codes
Support construction and equipment testing and commissioning
Coordinate and provide technical assistance for SCADA, substation/plant physical, and control projects in order to fully develop system integration of protection, control, and monitoring systems
Qualifications:
B.S. (M.S. degree preferred) in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with 5 years of experience is required
Familiarity with the typical failure modes of the normal power plant materials, systems and plant component items and methods of non-destructive test used on generators, transformers, cables, insulation systems and major plant items
Familiarity with the principles of power plant auxiliary power distribution systems, properties of electrical materials, test procedures and precautions to be taken to ensure safety
Strong knowledge of AC/DC fundamentals, including understanding of three-phase power systems
Proficient understanding of the utility grid (power generation, transmission and distribution) systems
Knowledge of protection principles and practices for transmission lines, distribution feeders, and major plant and substation equipment
Ability to understand relaying one-lines and control schematics
Experience with plant and substation physical electrical, protection and control design schematics, SCADA systems, including station communications and station automation design
Familiarity with NERC standards
Familiarity with Transmission Planning Criteria and or Power Flow Modeling for Transmission and distribution networks
Knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NEMA and ANSI
Medium and high voltage experience with transformers, switchgear, breakers and power cables, generators, motors, MCC’s, power panels, buss-work, or electric transmission is required
Prior relevant experience in utility plant and/or substation engineering
Design and project experience of overhead and underground medium and high voltage distribution/transmission cables, re-conductoring and asset replacement transmission projects in NYC or urban environment is desired
Experience in electrical system modeling, relay coordination, short circuit studies, setting microprocessor-based relays, field commissioning of electrical systems, NYISO interconnect studies is a plus
