Pipeline Operator

Overview

Job Summary

The Pipeline Operator is responsible for operating the IMTT-Pipeline in a safe and efficient manner. Maintain Right of Way to ensure public safety.

Responsibilities

• Consistently monitor pipeline movement and make product switches.
• Communicate with connecting pipelines (Colonial, Harbor, P66 and Buckeye) about any problems or schedule changes.
• Communicate with Bulk Oil Supervisors and Traffic ATM’s about any upset situations.
• Perform periodic RIGHT of Way inspections. Perform line mark-outs.
• Oversee contractors during construction, excavations or repair work.
• Must maintain NYFD certification and DOT operator qualifications.
• Must have working knowledge of DOT rules and regulations per 49 CFR.
• Update schedules and coordinate with customers and other departments in the Pipeline Manager’s absence

Requirements and Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License with a hazardous material endorsement (must have within 30 days).
• TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Credentials) for access to IMTT’s terminal locations.
• Minimum of one year prior experience at this facility or other Pipeline facilities.
• FDNY Certificate of fitness- provided after placed in position.

Skills and Abilities

• Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
• Ability to understand written and verbal communication in the English language.
• Ability to make decisions in a variable environment.
• Ability to communicate with all other terminal departments.
• Knowledge of basic mathematics (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and fractions).
• Must able to operate manual valves.
• Must be able to properly distinguish measurements and increments on a gauging tape and pressure gauges.

Hours Worked

• Typical hours of operation: 12-hour night shifts from 6:30pm to 6:30am, including every other weekend.
• This position requires the ability to work rotating shifts and perform overtime and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
• Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.

• This would require the ability to lift up to 25 pounds, bend, stand, or stoop, as necessary.
• Ability to perform climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling and moderate lifting.
• Must be able to work in confined spaces, over water and not be afraid of heights.
• Ability to wear and use a respirator
