POSITION PURPOSE
The Tank Farm Loader is responsible for safe and efficient loading and unloading of tank trucks, rail cars, barges, and ships with a variety of specialty chemicals. This position will be required to learn and safely operate terminal equipment and perform daily operating functions in conjunction with the loading and unloading activities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Control and monitor transfers of the various bulk liquid fine chemicals stored and handled at the facility. Physically establish connections between the facility’s transfer lines, vessels, barges, rail cars and trucks.
- Understand printed load orders and confirm that the proper quantities are transferred by utilizing flow meters, batch controllers, tank gauging systems, etc. Assist in generating the proper transfer documentation and shipping documents.
- When necessary, verify automated tank gauging systems with tape gauges and volume calculations.
- Open and close motor operated and manual valves. Activate and monitor product transfer pumps. Monitor tank and line heating systems.
- Empty transfer lines by means of “pigging”.
- Perform first level mechanical maintenance on pumps, valves, filters, loading arms, etc.
- Assist in responding to terminal emergencies such as spills and fire.
- The position will be performed in shift rotation.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience in field operations, preferably in the chemical or petro-chemical industry.
- Capable of participating in the terminal emergency response organization.
- Depending upon the product transferred, it may be necessary to wear respiratory equipment and PPE.
- Willingness to work overtime and irregular hours when necessary.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work over water and at heights.
- Professional safety training and or experience in industrial firefighting.
- Computer literacy and/or experience with automated control and monitoring systems.
This is a full-time position. Typical hours of operation are Sunday through Saturday, 12-hour rotating shift. This position requires overtime and weekend work as job duties demand.
TRAVEL
Occasional travel may be necessary, sometimes with little or no advance notice.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job requires the employee to work in an outdoor environment. Temperatures routinely reach 95 – 100 degrees Fahrenheit in summer.
Ability to work over water and at heights.

- The large scale of the operation and the extensive layout of the facility require that the labor force have good physical fitness, including but not limited to, the ability to walk through uneven terrain and to climb stairs and ladders. Furthermore, because the facility and adjoining facilities handle hazardous materials, the labor force must be able to evacuate quickly from any location of the facility without assistance in an emergency.
- The job requires strenuous activities and heavy lifting in an outdoor environment. Incumbent must walk rough terrain, climb stairs and ladders on 80-foot-high tanks and lift 50 pounds on a routine basis.
