What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meat Wrapper I position at In Flight, Inc?
General Purpose:
The Meat Wrapper provides customer-friendly service to our valuable customers and provides the quality products that Adams is known for. This means wrapping meat, filling and rotating the case, keeping the department clean, and being the final line for quality control in the department.
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Meat Manager, Meat Assistant Manager
Duties:
- Ensure that customers receive the best customer service by providing friendly, polite, and knowledgeable service
- Greet customers personally and thank them appreciatively for shopping at Adams
- Accurately wrap and label meat for cases, making sure to include sell by date, weight and unit price, and PLU
- Rotate and stock meat cases, making sure each package is correctly labeled, there are no empty spaces in meat cases and there is a variety of products for customers to purchase
- Rotate products in case so the nearest sell by date is in front and on top of furthest date
- Check hamburger case routinely and make sure it is kept full
- Keep packages in the case pulled forward, lined up and neat, with no empty spaces (blocking), making sure to level the case so it always appears full (dummying)
- Alert meat cutters when an item is running low in the case or when the last tray of a featured item is being put out in the case
- Maintain awareness of items that are backed up in order to prioritize how to fill the case
- Be the final line for quality control: look for packaging issues, sell-by dates, and be vigilant about quality and presentation of all products put into the case
- Clean meat cases, including wiping shelves and keeping glass clean at all times
- Clean and sanitize equipment and department as necessary during shift and at closing
- Take customer orders both in person and on the phone; complete orders 1 day prior to pick up
- When a customer needs assistance, give the customer priority over the task at hand
Physical Requirements:
Employee must be physically able to:
- Consistently lift and move 60 pounds
- Stand for duration of shift
- Work in cold temperatures for duration of shift
- Use hands, wrists, fingers, and arms for duration of shift
- Safely operate and use automatic wrapper, hand wrapping station, and all scales
- Use the compactor and cardboard crusher for disposing of garbage
Qualifications:
- Communicate clearly with customers and coworkers
- Employees are our internal customers; treat them with the same courtesy and respect as our external customers
- Be 18 years or older
- Must work efficiently and at a productive pace per department needs
- Must be able to work scheduled shift
- Follow all department safety policies and procedures
- Understand weights and measurements
- Be able to concentrate on tasks in order to avoid injury and waste of product
- Be knowledgeable about Adams product - recommend cooking methods and ideas to customers by exploring customer preferences and advocating Adams product
