About the role....

As the Commercial Portfolio Planner, you will build and manage all aspects of a comprehensive commercial seed portfolio, including developing and executing the plan to prioritize seed projects from late product development to commercial portfolio and providing input to product development during prototyping.  This effort is expected to optimize profitability across all three GTM channels (parent seed, licensing, and collaborations).  

This is a great opportunity for a talented Commercial Portfolio Planner to enable our commercial strategy, focusing on how best to manage the priorities to deliver “on time” volumes to market for forecasted seed volume and the commercial portfolio. This should be done in a way that maximizes our long-term revenue, balancing seed demands across projects, along with balancing seed demand for internal/external trials versus multiplication for use across the three GTM channels.  

The Commercial Portfolio Planner will be responsible for co-creating with Seed Operations seed multiplication plans and contingency plans for INARI’s various projects consistent with INARI’s strategic intent.  Your plan will include multi-location facilities in the northern and southern hemisphere, to maximize the number of increase cycles. 

The Commercial Portfolio Planner will collaborate broadly across the Commercial and Development teams, especially while prioritizing and problem solving.  

This role is anticipated to interact with INARI senior management to highlight development, donor and finished seed supply bottlenecks and opportunities.  This role will also be responsible for allocating seed across various projects and customer partners.

You will be a key contributor to the Commercial Leadership Team (CLT) and to the commercial plans of Inari.  Your expertise and creativity may allow for product launches on a larger scale or earlier than planned, having a significant impact to INARI’s bottom line and reputation.

This position will be based in our West Lafayette, Indiana location and reports to the Head of Commercial Strategy with a dotted line to commercial operations.

As the Commercial Portfolio Planner, you will…

  • Collaboratively develop and manage the project plan to optimize projects from late product development through seed increases and inventory allocation for INARI’s development, pre-commercial, and commercial products.  This optimization is to maximize INARI profitability and deliver on corporate objectives
  • Allocate seed supply between future seed increases, internal and external trialing, and commercial sales and enablement of all 3 GTM channels
  • Balance return on investment, risks and rewards, customer commitments and supply limitations by assessing the long-term business ROI of various supply options and impact to strategic initiatives
  • Develop creative solutions to address bottlenecks or react to unexpected portfolio expansion requirements and multiplication challenges
  • Collaborate with the commercial licensing, parent seed, and external collaborations team to ensure that simultaneous multiple negotiations and contracts and existing commitments are within constraints or opportunities associated with seed availability (volume and timing).  It is anticipated that this role will stretch commercial operations and product development to develop unique or non-traditional plans 
  • Quality management systems:  Create new and maintain and/or update SOPs and role related work instructions
  • Participate in the multi-year planning and business case assessment for developmental projects to ensure alignment between project  needs and seed inventory 

You Bring…

  • B.S. in Ag Business, Plant Breeding, or similar ag based degree with 5 years of industry experience in Seed production or operations, agronomy, and/or product management
  • Strong understanding of all aspects of seed production & supply chain, and project management
  • Demonstrated strength in working and influencing across functions and teams. Ability to collaborate across Product Development, Commercial, and Customers
  • Ability to assimilate multiple project/product strategies in a way that allows for prioritization of seed supply resources
  • Aptitude for working with and learning technical information related to Agriculture and/or seed technologies
  • Working knowledge of standard office software tools
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • A strong sense of purpose and drive to develop unique, high impact solutions
  • Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning
  • Creative and strategic thinking, willingness to be bold and take risks, and the ability to recognize and learn from failure
