Summary
The person in this role reports to the Vice President, Marketing and Communications and collaborates closely with Senior Directors across the Audience Development, Programming & Production, and Business Affairs departments. They will lead a team of 8-10 staff within the marketing unit, which is responsible for expanding the reach, visibility, and social impact of ITVS-funded content across platforms and in the public media system. Responsibilities include: serving as an integral member of ITVS’s senior leadership team; marketing and brand management- related strategies for ITVS and the Emmy Award-winning multi-platform anthology film series Independent Lens; orchestrate go-to-market strategies, positioning, and activation plans for ITVS funding initiatives and will provide strategic focus for consumer-focused Independent Lens 15-25 marketing campaigns; leading teams that build unified marketing efforts across all cross-functional departments / units including Communications, Distribution, Programming, Production, Business Affairs and Creative Services; working closely with peers and other colleagues across the organization to ensure integration and cohesion with institutional strategic priorities; acting as an external ambassador, representing ITVS programs and services to press, the public media system, as well as the broader film and entertainment industry.
Essential Functions
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead budgeting, planning, team meetings, and staff development opportunities.
- Develop strategic plans for the department, including strategies, tactics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) that contribute toward the organization’s overall goals. Monitor progress throughout the year, and reinforce accountability for KPIs among unit directors.
- Advance integrated strategy team goals by aligning institutional needs with department and unit activations.
- Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team to refine and evolve interdepartmental workflows and develop solutions and recommendations to improve organizational development and culture, processes, and staff retention.
- In close collaboration with Vice President, actively monitor and assess Marketing team structure and roles in light of organizational growth and industry demands.
- Promote a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and a commitment to editorial quality and the highest levels of public media standards and practices.
Marketing & Publicity
- Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance ITVS’s brand identity; broaden awareness of its priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs to audiences.
- Identify internal and external opportunities and emerging challenges the organization faces, and work with leadership team and staff to define and execute appropriate strategies to address them.
- Ensure that programs align with brand positioning, marketing strategies, and messaging objectives and are cohesively integrated across all customer touch points. Work with other Audience Development unit leaders to ensure seamless integration.
- Prioritize and optimize media opportunities. As needed, prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other communications.
- Use data and insight to steer audience development across platforms, prioritizing target audience/ segment priorities, along with key content and offerings that will create differentiation.
- Advance digital technology of external communications, maintaining best in class UX and accessibility standards for the institutional digital platforms.
- Develop consumer insights that inform marketing plans, as well as test the effectiveness of audience development activities across all departments.
- Oversee national events strategy with the Vice President of Marketing and Communications and Senior Vice President of Content to amplify impact and create brand consistent messaging for institutional and brand positioning events.
- Foster and contribute to a culture of creativity and idea generation by challenging the status quo and asking questions.
- Provide enthusiastic and exceptional customer service, anticipating partner needs, handling inquiries, and resolving issues.
- Contribute to developing ITVS culture by proactively participating in institutional programs and staff events.
- Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements
- Required: Minimum 5 years experience in a senior management role.
- Required: Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive, multi-platform marketing campaigns to advance an organization’s mission and goals.
- Required: Demonstrated skill in proactively building relationships with key stakeholders.
- Required: Innovative thinker, with a track record of translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.
- Required: Experience in building, mentoring, and coaching a team of communications specialists.
- Preferred: Experience with Google Workspace and Asana.
Compensation
This is an exempt position that offers a base salary of $135,000.00 with a robust benefits package. Base pay is negotiable depending on prior experience.
