Maintenance Worker

This position is located at the Red Lake Service Unit in the Facilities Management Department, Maintenance Section, IHS, Indian Hospital, Red Lake, MN. The purpose of this position is to provide maintenance, preventive maintenance and craft skills in the Maintenance Section of Facilities Management. The position is involved in operation, maintenance and repair for the hospital with outpatient clinic, a satellite clinic and the related buildings and grounds.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. WG-08: Follows oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing maintenance mechanic duties, including use and apply standard building techniques, practices, and codes, read and understand blueprints, sketches and schematics, read and understand work orders in order to complete assigned work, use and maintain pneumatic hand tools, use and maintain shop tools, drill press, band saw, table saw, etc., follow manufacturer's instructions for use of power tools, follow safety manuals on operation of tools and equipment, follow safety guidelines working with oils and lubricants while performing maintenance tasks, respond to frequent changes in instructions, with respect to the team, project and/or task, adhere to a schedule to perform preventive maintenance work and inspection and maintain complete records of work completed.

Responsibilities:

• Removes and replaces parts and components of the assigned heat-pump units.
• Performs plumbing related duties which involve removing, cleaning, replacing, packing and sealing defective parts of utility, supply and disposal systems.
• Performs minor electrical related duties such as wiring furnace motors and setting thermostats, hooking up electrical hot water heaters, etc.
• Constructs minor additions and makes repairs to buildings not involving extensive alterations or changes to the original framing of the structure.
• Operates snow removal equipment to clear streets, driveways and parking areas, shovels snow from steps and sidewalks.
