Transportation Planner
INCOG, the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Tulsa Urban Area is
seeking to fill one vacant position as either a Transportation Planner or a Senior
Transportation Planner. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, eager to
learn and willing to take on new and challenging responsibilities. Senior Planners are
expected to have obtained their AICP certification.
The Transportation Planner will perform entry-level professional transportation
planning duties under direct supervision from more senior staff and will assist with the
development of work products. The Senior Transportation Planner will provide mid-
level professional transportation planning duties under guidance and
encouragement from more senior staff and is expected to lead the development of
work products.
There are two major emphasis areas for this position.

Highways Plan. Assist/Lead the development of future Safe Streets for All
grant applications to FHWA. Assist/Lead the development of future Local
Roadway Safety Action Plans. Assist member jurisdictions with developing
projects for federal funding. Assist/Lead with identifying issues and finding
solutions with the rural roadway system and the urban street system in the
INCOG area.

Assist/Lead expansion of micro-transit in the INCOG area; these services are
provided by several operators.
INCOG administers about $30 million annually in federal funds for transportation
projects; there will be opportunities to participate in INCOG’s project selection
process. There will also be opportunities to assist in the development of major
transportation planning work products such as the metropolitan transportation plan
and the transportation improvement program. The successful applicant will
demonstrate the ability to work well with other professionals and the general public,
have strong written and oral communication skills, and meet deadlines.

Minimum qualifications: A master’s degree in urban planning or regional & city
planning is required. No experience required for the Transportation Planner position.
The annual starting salary for a transportation planner is anticipated to be $49,000-
$61,000. Three to five-years of experience in urban planning or transportation is
required for the Senior Transportation Planner position. and for a senior
transportation planner to be $66,500-$82,000; specific compensation will be based
on qualifications and experience. Comprehensive health and retirement benefits
