What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate/Full Professor of Clinical Pediatrics position at Indiana University?
The Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a visionary academic leader to serve as the Division Chief, of Hematology-Oncology. This is a full-time faculty position at the Associate/Full Professor level. The successful candidate should have a strong background in academic leadership, research and teaching. Experience should include evidence of effective communication, mentorship, and change management. Ideally, the candidate would be a proven leader with a strong national reputation in Hematology-Oncology and history of research accomplishments who is poised to lead the department to the next level of excellence.
Riley Hospital for Children is the only comprehensive Children's Hospital in the state and includes two recently completed clinical towers, one for children and a second maternity/NICU tower. Over 350 new oncology patients are diagnosed each year, and the Division is Indiana's only pediatric program to offer precision genomics. There are currently 37 faculty members in Hematology-Oncology, and the hospital has active programs in: Neuro-Oncology, Stem Cell Transplantation, Immune Oncology, Oncology survivorship, new agent Phase I program (NCI-supported), and Neurofibromatosis clinical research. The Wells Center for Pediatric Research at Riley Hospital has internationally prominent research programs in neurofibromatosis, pediatric sarcomas, stem cell biology including endothelial/mesenchymal biogenesis, leukemogenesis and DNA repair, and gene therapy. Riley Hospital for Children cares for nearly 3,000 hematology pediatric patients for diseases such as sickle cell, thalassemia, and bleeding and clotting disorders. There are also multidisciplinary clinics in bone marrow failure and in the care of patients with immunodeficiencies. The candidate will join a rich multidisciplinary team of researchers, physicians, nurses, neurologists, pharmacists, psychologists and social workers who care for these children.
The Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine is located in Indianapolis. Co-located is the state's only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center caring for patients. The Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of the leading academic cancer research centers in the nation with over 270 members conducting translational research in pediatric and adult cancers. Faculty in the Department of Pediatrics have multiple leadership roles in this NCI designated research center. In addition, the school also has a NIH designated Cooperative Center for Excellence in Molecular Hematology (CEMH) and a T32 focused on hematopoiesis and genetic disease. These school-wide programs are led by investigators in the Department of Pediatrics. The Department of Pediatrics at IU/Riley is consistently in the top 10 Departments in the US in NIH funding.
