GENERAL SUMMARY

This is a professional internal auditing position with the Indianapolis Airport Authority. This person must possess a basic understanding of internal audit work, which includes planning the audits, examining and evaluating information, communicating results, presenting recommendations, and following up. The audit work will be performed for the Indianapolis Airport Authority, within the state of Indiana or at other outside locations as deemed necessary.

The work involves the auditing of all facets of airport operations including, but not limited to: contract review and comprehension, internal control procedures, parking activity, concessionaire records, professional service contracts, car rental contracts, construction contracts, and fraud evaluation. Anticipated travel for this position is expected to be no more than twenty-five percent of the time, or a maximum 520 hours per year. The Internal Auditor in the performance of his/her duties and responsibilities to the Authority will include an objective review and evaluation of the following:

• Internal controls and their effectiveness;
• Operating procedures, including the efficiency with which they are being carried out;
• Compliance of all personnel with established policies and procedures;
Adequacy of safeguards for the physical protection of records and assets.

The Internal Auditor works independently under the general supervision of the Senior Director of Audit and Compliance or the Senior Internal Auditor in the absence of the Senior Director of Audit and Compliance. The Indianapolis Airport Authority Finance and Audit Committee, any of the Authority’s external auditors, City and State governmental auditors, and the Senior Internal Auditor may review the work of the Internal Auditor.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plans audits of various areas.
• Assists the Authority’s external auditors in the performance of the annual audit when required.
• Audits parking lot operations, including balancing of lot inventories, reconciliations of daily shift reports to deposits, can perform unscheduled cash counts, performs ticket audits on location and performs unscheduled evaluations of equipment to determine proper operation.
• Reviews and analyzes records of concessionaires for adherence to their contract and to determine the accuracy of reported information.
• Reviews and analyzes records of airline lessees for adherence to their contract and to determine the accuracy of reported information.
• Conducts various internal audits including, but not limited to: payroll, travel expenses and reimbursements, internal processes and procedures, inventory, and internal controls.
• Performs audits of construction activities, during and at the completion of projects.
• Performs audits of car rental contracts for adherence to contract and to determine the accuracy of reported information.
Any other duties, as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college with major course works in Accounting, Auditing, or Finance.
• Preferred experience in internal auditing, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to perform all the essential functions of the job as outlined above without creating a direct threat to the safety of oneself or others.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of internal auditing.
• Ability to communicate with fellow workers, management, and concessionaires.
Ability to prepare written reports of audit results.
