Orthodontic assistants work in orthodontic practices to help orthodontists with patient care and procedures.
Their duties include:
- Assisting with procedures: Helping orthodontists install braces, fix overbites, and treat malpositioned jaws and teeth
- Preparing patients: Ensuring patients are comfortable in the dental chair and providing at-home instructions for orthodontic care
- Preparing tools: Sterilizing orthodontic tools and accessories, and changing out wires and brackets
- Taking X-rays: Operating X-ray machines and preparing and taking patient molds
- Adjusting appliances: Adjusting the fit of clear aligners, retainers, and archwires
- Scheduling: Scheduling check-ups and tracking payment plans for braces treatment
- Providing information: Informing patients about dental hygiene and aftercare
- Providing chairside assistance: Passing instruments to orthodontists during procedures and assisting with anything the orthodontist needs help with
Orthodontic assistants may also perform administrative duties as needed.
Pay Dependant Upon Experience
Salary : $20 - $30
