Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Optical Network Engineer to work in our Network and Transport Services department! Our team works a Hybrid, 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.
Responsibilities Include:Responsible for designing, maintaining, implementing, and troubleshooting an organization's computer networks.
Utilize industry standards and practices to plan and design efficient and simplistic networks.
Responsible for onsite and remote engineering, management, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of network systems.
Develop highly reliable computer systems and information networks which includes design know-how for system architecture, hardware logic, software organization, and the ability to achieve the correct mix of these solutions for a specific need.
Bachelor of Science degree and 2-5 years of relevant experience OR Advanced degree and 1-3 year of relevant experience OR 10-13 years in lieu of a degree
Degree must be in Network Engineering, Computer Engineering, Network and Security Administration, Network Engineering and Security, Computer Information Systems, or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
Equivalent combination of education and experience commensurate with level that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
2 or more years experience with Optical technologies and standards
Knowledge of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) technologies and standards
Familiarity with the following optical transport platforms: Ciena, Nortel
Knowledge of Layer 2 networking standards and practices
Knowledge of G.8032 Ethernet Ring Protection Switching

Salary Grade: PR0200: 190 ($72,528 - $119,652) / Salary Grade PR0300: 210 ($95,928 - $158,232)
