Job Title: Building Operator I
Pay Rate: $28 to 30/Hr.
Duration: 8 Months
Location: Rochester, NY
This position is for the Building Automation division.
This position requires Contingent Workers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they are granted a medical or religious exemption.
I - Schedule:
- 12-hour workday. [7 am – 7 pm or 7 pm – 7 am].
- Days on / off rotate - Shifts do not rotate
- You will average two 36- hour weeks and two 48-hour weeks per month.
- You will be paid on a weekly basis. Overtime will be paid over 40 hours worked per week.
II. - Job Scope: To operate the IOLA Powerhouse in a safe, efficient, and reliable environment.
- The plant includes four (4) 350 HP Hurst high-pressure steam boilers and related plant equipment for boiler operations. Operational status is 80 – 100 PSI.
- The facility produces high- and low-pressure steam plus domestic hot water for Monroe Community Hospital and the Monroe County Department of Social Services.
III. - Job Description:
- Have knowledge of the basic design of fire tubes and package boilers.
- Understand combustion of natural gas and fuel oils including flue gas temp/analysis and basic pollutants.
- Understand combustion controls and how to calibrate and operate controls.
- Have knowledge of the properties of saturated steam
- Understand water and condensate systems, including but not limited to piping size, pumps, valves, flanges, hangers, insulation, deaeration, and water treatment analysis.
- Have a good understanding of air systems, both combustion and compressed.
- Understand electronic and pneumatic controls for operation and repair.
- Have good electrical knowledge addressing safety, high and low voltages, and grounding.
- Have excellent communication skills in dealing with our customers.
- Have good computer skills. (Apogee, MS Office / Excel, SE&A) are presently used on site.
- Have knowledge of all procedures for the following:
- Low water
- High water
- Loss of feed water
- Gauge glass failure
- Loss of combustion controls, both air, and fuel
- Boiler startup / shutdown / inspections
- Testing of safety valves
- Loss of pressure vessel components
- Cleaning both the fireside and waterside of boilers
- All aspects of water treatment
IV. - Experience, Skills, Ability, and Availability:
- Two years of experience in boiler room operations.
- A FIRST (1ST) CLASS STATIONARY ENGINEER'S LICENSE (VALID FOR THE CITY OF ROCHESTER) IS REQUIRED.
- Flexibility in scheduling, as you may be required to cover shifts, as the plant’s needs change.
- A valid New York State driver’s license.
- This is only a TEMP position; no opportunity to convert to FTE.
- Less than 500 hrs year.

Salary: $29.50 - $30.00 per hour
